It's not that hard to foul someone to prevent them from scoring, and also not paralyze them.

He didn't have to go for the head, he could have easily grab his arm or something. There were countless of other ways for him to foul the guy.

He has a condition where when he gets hit on the head, it does bad things.

I forget the technical stuff, I only saw clips of it between hockey highlights when it happened.

There are other ways to draw a foul without getting that physical. I have seen worse fouls before, which seem intentional.I forgot which teams they were, but it was NCAA and the guy was going up for a layup, the defender threw him down when he was in the air and i'm pretty sure he ended up breaking the other guy's elbow.
