I haven't played sro for a long time due to the reason I can't. Why you ask, this is why; I used to be able to play silkroad fine on my average 2 year old windows xp computer, then I was having issues with windows so I started to play through linux ubuntu. Everything worked fine until the fortress war patch. When the Europe patch came out I installed it through windows and kept playing it through linux. But when the fortress war update came, windows is so extremly slow/laggy that I couldn't install/download the new client on it! I do not know why windows isn't working so don't ask why it is not working. I need help/advice on what to do. I can either try some how to install sro on linux ubuntu (with someone elses help) or reistall windows (I need to find the cd). Please help me!

Reinstall windows would be your best move, if you cant find your xp cd then torrent will become your best friend.

If he used to play silkroad before on the same computer there should be no problem there.

Sounds like good advice, but first i will try to find the cd for windows. If there are any linux gurus then can you tell if it is possible to install sro on it directly and if so how. Thanks

Have you followed the instructions there?
They also mention that Wine 0.9.54 had issues with the installer.

actualy not true i have been playing silkroad since open beta came out and ive had the same laptop since then and now i cant play sro on it at all i use to be able to play sro at 60 cap with this

windows xp home
1.4ghz processor
256 ram
768k dsl
128 mb of vid

so after 80 cap came i coudnt use that anymore so i had to upgrade the ram to 512 then it worked fine till fort came out and again i couldnt play so i just gave up and used a normal comp with 768mb ram on it

yeah that would do it, my older 2.0gz 512ram 256 mb vid card can barely play it, with all graphics on low it takes me 5+ minutes to load everything in hotan and the max fps i get is like 25... maybe.

and it used to run it fine and was able to record video with fraps on it, so higher reqs i guess.
