It's not just his asinine policies, inconsistent voting record and archaic 19th century worldview; it's also the fact that his hordes of extremist followers have been collectively crapping their pants over him for the past several months now. It's admittedly refreshing to see an anti-war Republican on the stage, but that doesn't justify the cult of personality being built around him, especially when you factor in the fact that his policy initiatives run the gamut from returning to the gold standard and phasing out public education to demolishing the FBI and privatizing the military. Just Google Ron Paul and you'll find a wealth of bizarre, Stalinist devotion, often manifested in slavish praise on Youtube comment boards.

The worst offenders of Ron Paul mania are the masses of 19-year-old, bright-eyed idealists who think that his ideas are new, revolutionary, and would work great if only someone would put them into practice. The obvious punchline is that the US was operating under Paul's libertarian paradise for basically the first half of its history. A quick look at history disproves the claims I've heard made by Ronpaulogists: food and drug companies wouldn't self-regulate if we destroyed the FDA (in fact, they were dumping snake oil and arsenic into their goods with impunity before it existed), the gold standard isn't some magical inflation-proof cure-all (in fact, gold standard currency undergoes sporadic, wild spasms of inflation and deflation), and a lack of public schools left much of the population too illiterate to perform most of today's jobs.

Actually, when I said that the 19-year-old idealists were the worst offenders, I left out the white supremacists and conspiracy theorists, who have flocked to the nutty Dr. Paul like a messiah. David Duke, a former governor of Louisiana and the nation's most prominent KKK member and neo-Nazi, is a fervent supporter of Ron Paul and his 19th century ideals, and rants on his official website about the vast Zionist media conspiracy against the man he literally calls his "king." If it was just this guy supporting Paul, I wouldn't make a big deal about it, but I've had a hard time finding a single white supremacist, 9/11 truther or any other that doesn't rally behind the only presidential candidate to claim that the 1964 Civil Rights Act "increased racial tensions while diminishing individual liberty."

So the next time someone in a sandwich board waving a bunch of pamphlets around tries to talk to you about Dr. Ron Paul, just remember that the guy is supporting a certifiable nutcase.

I get angry when all they do is flame and don't give reasons for their attacks. It's quite sad that it's usually what's used, attacks. They don't use reason or logic, just emotions like a caveman. I try to use logic and reason and if someone ultimately disagrees that's just a difference in opinion/philosophy, and at least we know where we stand and can respect the other person more for it.
Sharp324 wrote:

What's wrong with that? If people are mistaken I should want to correct them even if they're not receptive.
Glad I could clear that up for you.

Does President Paul really sound good? lol I don't know much about him other than ppl use styrofoam cups to spell out "Vote For Ron Paul" in the fences on the freeway over passes here in our city. PPL that don't care about the enviroment are what I see from his "supporters". He doesn't have a chance in H-E-double hockey sticks. Those that are educated in what really matters for the people of the United States will be people I rely on to vote and help elect the president that will help us to clean up our image as a country so we are no longer the laughing stock of the World. Thank god another Bush isn't running for president. If we ever have another Bush as president I will move to Canada or Mexico or anywhere else. He has single handedly dumbed down the entire country. There are kids who are encouraged to drop out of school now because of the no child left behind act. He is creating the next group of uneducated americans.

I am very pleased with the 3 front runners of this next election. Clinton, Obama, and McCain all have qualities and ideas that would be a start to what we need. I personally can't stand Romney. I have a huge problem with knowing that 10% of his tax-payer salary would go to the mormon church. I see a huge violation of seperation of church and state. (I understand that it is his business on what he does with his money. I PERSONALLY have a problem with it.) McCain has great war expirience and I would trust his choices he makes on ending this war, whether it be today or tomorrow. Obama has a great view on education and as a mother of 3, education is something that is very important to me. Clinton has a great plan for healthcare, and unless you are a working ADULT that is no longer able to get your parent's insurance, you will have no clue as to how expensive it really is to get sick. I really see hope in the 3 front runners.

I have respect for every individual's choice when it all comes down to it. The only way we know if we had a made a wrong choice is over time. As it was with Bush the FIRST time, we found over time he was not what we needed. We should have known better the 2nd time around, but as the saying goes "hindsight is 20/20"

:)

can everyone just shut up about ron paul now!

if you like him, good for you. just shut up about it, you're not changing anyones opinion
if you dont like him, good for you. just shut up about it, you're not changing anyones opinion

the only thing coming out of these discussions is flames. Wouldnt everyone be alot happier if you all just stopped?

I was watching the Democratic and Republican debates yesterday on CNN, something i'll probably never do again as they stopped literally every 3-5 to go to commercial break which was ridiculous. Anyway i think i've had a change of heart about some of these candidates.

Democrats:

Barack Obama - I like his stance on foreign policy and his countenance most of all. If we have to have someone out there giving speeches that are supposed to show we are open to negotiations i think he would be the best person even if he isn't as experienced in global issues. His stance on the economy is shifty at best and not really something i can believe in same with his health coverage stance but both these things will have to go through a sea of legislation which means pruning and prawning and it'll probably take at least 1-2 years to see anything come out of it at the least.

Hilary Clinton- Her health coverage system sounds the best out of any candidate. however being a politician its her job to make things sound nice. Of course she's sold out her healthcare program for her career before theres nothing to stop her from doing it again. She also has a more solid platform on the economic issues as they pertain to people losing homes but like obama even her plan is shifty at best and will go through so much legislation it'll morph b4 it sees light. I don't like her foreign policy and she is not someone how i think is fit to lead the military which is one of the presidents jobs. She seems reluctant to act on any international news and i think in time of a crisis she'd be looking around for help rather than keeping a head on her shoulders. Also she's constantly smiling like she just got a botox injection, its creepy and its phony.

Republicans

Mitt Romney - IMO is just as bad as bush. He's a business man who put business before gov't and think that makes him fit to lead. He seems gung ho for war and willing to go to war with anyone else he doesn't like because America has enemies everywhere as far as he's concerned so his foreign policy sucks balls in other words. His stance on immigration was the worst thing i;ve heard yet wanting to practically deport every illegal and there child even if they are firmly set in society and acting as good Americans out of the country within 90 days, disgusting. His economic stance is awful i don't even think he has a stance on health coverage between him and McCain i think they're the worst people to vote for this election.

John McCain - I was liking him for awhile actually. But after watching more and more of him he's turning into a parrot like gulliani only instead of saying 9/11 he's saying "Reagen Revolution". Reagen did something for the economy but aside from that i don't like him in fact im agreeing with Huey Freeman on this Ronald Reagan was the devil and not a ever good role model for what we need now, it like people forgot about Star Wars and him urging the russians in increase and develop better nuclear technology by pushing the arms race, he also all but ended the race with his treaty yes i know but that wasn't a very Reagan move it was politics. Anyway McCain got nothing to say thats worth listening too really his stance on everything is questionable because he keeps changing it not worth a vote.

Ron Paul - Oh this guy. Everything he says sounds good as well. He wants to put more money in pocket, get the gov't off our back, and free up the market. With a stance like that how could he go wrong. The problem is while everything he says sounds good its not practical, probable, or possible. The American gov't is a 3 part system of checks and balances aka red tape to slow down the law making process to a snails pace but it does its job nicely when people sides disagree and no one agree with Ron Paul. I like some of his ideas, the CIA has been nothing but trouble, its an intel group that arranges coups and attempts to undermine gov'ts all over the world. Even something like that though won't pass through congress. Ron Paul is not a good public speaker, he reminds of Mr. Rogers in a way, just a little old man with something to say. If he would tone it down a bit, not offer such radical changes without proof that they'll work he might get elected and get something done but you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Mike Huckabee - This guy. This guy. He's not so bad for a republican. Like all the Rep he loses points automatically in foreign policy but he makes up for it by being the most reasonable Rep candidate available. He offers a firmly moderate position on most issues playing it safe but between him and the other guys he'd rather pick him only because he's someone who could get something done in office and not something terrible or stupid but actually something worth doing. Since voting for Paul would be a waste and he's kinda crazy i'd give my vote to Huckabee if i had to vote Republican.

Im not voting republican im voting democrat and hopefully for Obama because i will never vote for Hilary....

if we have another bush as president there probably won't be a USA, Canada or Mexico. By the way the North American Union wasn't his plan but rather something the Council on Foreign Relations has been working on for a long time. When people talk about the "power elite"...that would be them, the CFR.

As far as the conspiracy claims go just think about this. You remember how the USA got into WW2, the bombing of Pearl Harbor right? Well it's a pretty well accepted fact now that our government knew about this bombing 12 days in advance and didn't take any action, that's not just talk on the "web", it's on the History Channel. When crisis happens, someone will always benefit from it, just because you don't understand how doesn't let them off the hook.

I should just stop here because if the person that wrote this can't even get his voting record right than it probably says a lot about the rest of his material. Paul's voting record is one of his staples. He is consistent with the Constitution.

That statement is abhorrently disrespectful to our founding fathers. It basically says they were wrong and this guy knows better.

He wouldn't be getting so much praise if his views weren't well receive or on the verge of isolation from the political norm. This person fails to see we're praising the message, not the messenger. He just happens to be the only one giving it, or one of little.

He's basically saying that if the FDA was taken away tomorrow that companies would get rid of established guidelines and start treating their customers like shit. Retarded. Part of why consumers could be taken advantage of long ago was one part a lack of science, another part too much trust in their fellow man. There's lots of reasons this stuff would be very rare in a free market, ie no govt regulation.
agent420 wrote:

I could care less about a metal standard as well. I do want the federal reserve abolished and our currency at least backed by gold. I don't know what his guy is smoking with gold being inflated. I'm pretty sure gold has remained about the same price as in 1913 but our dollar is only a couple cents compared to that of 1913 (I'm too lazy to look up official #'s.) Also, the definition of inflation:
A persistent increase in the level of consumer prices or a persistent decline in the purchasing power of money, caused by an increase in available currency and credit beyond the proportion of available goods and services.
That doesn't happen with gold, much, fyi.
agent420 wrote:

A lack of the Dept of Edu. does not equate to dismantling public schools. It just means the power goes back to where it belongs, close to or at the parents hands.

Good job at pointing those things out.

RP "spam" wouldn't be so prevalent if the mainstream media wasn't actively censoring him out since the beginning of his campaign.

yes, i am really only 17. i just posted fake wedding pics of myself and my myspace link in other posts for shits and giggles.
yes, i am a pothead. i smoke pot on a daily basis, but i have a great job as a software programmer and you have prob seen pics that i have posted of where i live. some would think i would be the first on rp's bandwagon because of the legalization issue, but no. i do not agree with the man, nor do i like him (which is pretty obvious).
immature...my wife would most likely agree with you on that one, so i'll give you that.
ignorant...

i might not be up to par on every single rp issue, but when it comes to education, a masters in psychology with my name on it says otherwise.

if you don't believe me, i really don't give a rats ass...and if you want to check my credentials, just ask dildogoblin, he is in the office right across the hall from me.

as for you redneck...
good one!!!!! you got me

i guess i can sum up this whole arguement very easily:

"OPINIONS ARE LIKE ASSHOLES...EVERYBODY'S GOT ONE...I JUST LIKE TO DROP MY PANTS MORE THAN OTHERS!"
