Excuse me for the second thread I've made today. I'm just having trouble picking between a Wizard and a Warlock, is all. I'd just like a little bit of basic information, if you guys could please help me.

1. Can Warlocks solo?

2. If they can, is it efficient? Seems like an awful lot of work for one kill - laying down two de-buffs, and then casting your nuke?

3. Do Warlocks level fast?

4. What advantages do Warlocks have compared to Wizards?

That's about it, methinks. The main thing that I'm searching for is the solo-ability of Warlocks, seeing as it's pretty difficult for me to find a party; I'm more a solo type of person. Occasionally, I'll party with my 2H Warrior friend, but more often, I'll be soloing.
I'm much more attracted to Warlocks than Wizards, in terms of their looks. The Warlock skills to me just look pretty awesome.

    Thanks, guys!

i think warlocks have a lot of sleep/faint/stun spells
and also the added poison

i think warlock would win against mage in pvp

and warlock levels pretty fast i think

1. At low levels its a bit hard but as you level up you get more skills to work with. You get a DoT that causes dull and one that causes bleed. You also get debuffs that lower the mobs damage and debuffs that let you do more damage. 2 skills that restore hp, a single target stun, and a aoe stun.

2. Its faster than you think. 2 DoT + Nuke might be a split second slower than a 300% nuke.

3. Depends on you. It may be faster than a pure int spear because you get zerk every minute.

4. You have a shield, can use life leech skills to regain hp, stun, do damage while in safe zone, gain zerk faster, a stun buff to place on teammates, and a reflect skill that does 90% of the damage done to you back to the opponent disregarding their defense.

I have tried both Wizard and Warlocks i can only respond to pve. Wizards do massive damage but they also pull large aggro, most times they survive otherwise get owned by a group of mobs. Warlocks have the ability to steal hp from their enemy and the use of a shield and with a shield with a good blocking ratio they block lots of attacks and it also helps when you have more than one mob to deal with. In my experience i have leveled faster with a warlock and survived longer than wizards same level as me. Warlocks cant 1shot mobs 10 lvls higher than themselves like wizards but they survive longer and casting dot, dot debuff is a little less or about the same time it takes for a wizard to cast 1 nuke. It just depends on what you like 1 shot nuke with the high chance of dieng if yoou get surronded or survive longer nand watch your enemies die slowly with shield that blocks and steal hp to restore your own.

agree :D
warlock skill has variation in grind, eg. when a giant approaches u, u may need to 1. cleric bless spell urself and fight 2. stun/sleep it and run 3. debuff it and do hp leech etc. seems more fun

btw, do u guys know which skills are necessary for warlock grind? i mean which skills u can skip (i think i will skip burn, poison skills and tk bleed, dull nuke etc.)
like any 1 can give a guide on whichever skills are necessary and good and which ones u can skip ? never seen another warlock guide except for the 56k warning which only displays all warlock skills

1. Can Warlocks solo?

Warlocks can level solo, since your sub is cleric just cast recovery division, switch rods and debuff, DoT, nuke, next. You will be able to grind if you have a 2 gap or less at orange mobs, anything more then a 2 gap your gear and skills are too far behind to grind orange you must go to white. But what china nuker grinds on orange mobs anyways without SoX?

2. If they can, is it efficient? Seems like an awful lot of work for one kill - laying down two de-buffs, and then casting your nuke?

Warlocks DoT's are magic based, unless in a party there is no need to debuff the phy defense on a monster. Unless your a button pusher like destructionmama :P you want to have as few buttons to push or you might get tired after a short period. A simple combo of my Magic debuff, bleed, and a nuke is enough for my lvl 57 warlock to kill a regular devil yeti.

3. Do Warlocks level fast?

The rate of exp gain is only held back by the rate you can kill at. The china nuker will grind on mobs it can one hit to gain the most exp per hour, these mobs they fight are usually white or lower depending on the nukers gear. Same for euro if you are soloing you need to be able to kill the mob in as few attacks as possable to gaint max xp rate.

4. What advantages do Warlocks have compared to Wizards?

Advantages, warlocks use more buttons? :D Warlocks although damage dealers are really meant to make the wizards and the tankers hit harder with the use of the debuffs. You can kinda think of warlock as half damage dealer half support class, while wizard is a full damage dealer.

I am sure I left something out but enjoy.

If you like saving some hp pots you can add a stun in the combo, the real good stuff is when you get zerg, just run around and put 2 DOT on every mob you see, you'll kill hella fast

and warlocks get zerk often because.....just beacause :)

if you want to imagine your keyboard as a piano keyboard, then go with Warlock, geeeeeez to much skills.

I'd go with wizard/bard or wizard/cleric if you want to pvp.

i have a level 46 wiz/cleric, i hardly use her now cuz i can only play in parties, but when i do, i mostly do the cleric part which is so boring, and you will get attacked first, and if your party sucks ass and they dont protect you, well your pretty much dead over and over again.

I think warlock is more fun to play with than wizard.

And that's where it is all about IMO. :)

Wow! Thank you for all your detailed responses, guys - especially Da_Realest and Glavie's Girl. It sounds like a real hard decision, still: I'm definitely loving the variety of skills and the looks of the Warlock Skills - I doubt I'll get bored easily. Yet, there's so many, it sounds and looks like a ton of farming, which is one of the main reasons why I'm jumping over to Euro: the supposed lack of it.
And one of the main things I don't like about Wizards is the animation. No matter what level you are, and what skills you're using, if you're using an Ice Skill, there's always that same beginning animation. Same with Lightning & Fire and Earth.

Think I'm going Warlock, guys. Thanks for all of your help! :]

warlock lvl 61 reply:

can they solo:
yes they can, they actualy perfectly can... however they are extremely usefull in party's aswell. if i solo, my strategy depends on the mob (type, kind, etc.): for mobs attacking with magic: use DoT's (preferebly the lower lvl ones, since they cast a lot faster then the higher ones, unless there are a couple close to each other). Since they attack with magic dmg and you are in robes, you can perfectly tank them (if you need hp, use vampire skills). basicly: kiting (see later)
Against phy mobs: (i take myself as lvl 60 as example VS yeti's) just use your 2 nukes and the mob is dead.
If you have running speed and a monkey you can consider 'kiting'
kiting is a perfect way for warlocks to lvl: you DoT a mob and run to the next one, DoT that one too, and run again. keep doing this untill your weapon breaks (goes pritty fast, so you better add dura on it). your monkey picks up everythign the mob drops. note: your DoT must be able to kill the mob in order for this to work. also: watch out for fast running mobs

2 is it efficient:
at lvl 60 i got about 0.01% without gt and in a 4man party soloing... it was mostly even better then grinding in a party

3 do they level fast
lol objectively seen they level as fast as any other build as they need the same xp... but the rate they get it... well, it's not a wizard or a rogue ofcourse. you need to be carefull not to die. its a fun build to play with, but you gotta be aware what you can and cannot do. they level fast in mag. attacking mobs as they can kite/tank these well. I feel im having a harder time now waiting to be able to go to the nachals. im trying party's now...
in a party the things you should do is debuff party mobs and place DoT's on them. occasionaly nuke em. in a good party this shouldnt happen to much as you will be busy enough debuffing the party mobs

4 advantages over wizards
first of all you need to realise that both builds are completely different. yeh a wizard can onehit mobs, will level very fast and thus make it easy to solo... however... as a wizard you will have to be carefull attacking champs/giants/party mobs. a warlock (and certainly with high lvl cleric skills... my cleric skills are still very low, i dont even have healing division) can (certainly) kill a champ/giant/party mob without dieing. however these require a new taktic: ill take myself at lvl 60 as example agian VS yeti's:
- champ: big nuke (carefull for splash), small nuke, vampire touch (dont use kiss, ull get ganged), small nuke, vampire touch (till its dead)
- giant & party: stun, debuff, add dots, small nuke, vampire touch, small nuke, vampire touch...
do NOT use shadow armor, you will get ganged!
add your trap inbetween and use reflect

you can buff yourself up with cleric skills before starting to attacking

good party's are hard to find (most idiots dont know the role of their euro char... clerics that only stand there being pritty after casting buffs, warriors kd (same for chinese idiots) and dont tank) but they are fun to play in!

good luck and have fun

Wizard is easier to play with than warlock. But Warlock can stun and stuff, making them very powerful in the hands of a knowledgable person. Basically, if you have no idea what you are getting into, go wizard. If you know exactly what is going on, go warlock. Or get warlock and sub wizard, for situations that warlock doesn't work well.

1. Can Warlocks solo?
Yes they can. Warlock deals decent damage, but they do kill normal mobs slower than wizard. Party mobs are untouchable if you are soloing.

Extra) In party hunt, warlock spells' range is pretty short relative to wizards', and their multi-hit spells actually draws a lot more aggro than wizard 's one nuke.

2. If they can, is it efficient? Seems like an awful lot of work for one kill - laying down two de-buffs, and then casting your nuke?
Depends on your defination of effective. Wizards kill normal mobs fast thanks to their high damage nukes. When you are trying to take out a party giant, Warlock as just as good in damage, and also benefits from the ability to stun the party giant. Keep in mind tho, that if you are hunting mobs 5-6 levels above your level, the curse effects might not work that often.

Extra) Many skills in the warlock line are useless for full int. For example, the life stealing skill very rarely save you life after you are level 50+. Once again, be knowledgable about which skills you need and which ones you don't are important. Some skills are useful for full str warlock only (e.g. the nuke reflect skill), and some are not useful at all.

3. Do Warlocks level fast? Gaining experience should not be a problem in party hunt. The biggest problem is to not giving up the exp you just got by dying. But all high int characters face this problem, not just warlock. Unless you want be make a warrior/warlock, and use hexes on the side while using melee damage as your main thing.

Extra) Subing bard for Noise and Moving March will increase your survivability

4. What advantages do Warlocks have compared to Wizards?
AoE hexes, excellent in PvP with stuns and stuff, unique as in a guild of 50 guys, you will probably be the only warlock :D .

Extra) Warlock spells gets casted extremely fast, unlike wizards who have to stand there for 2 seconds for the nuke to come out.

warlock is more fun 1 hitting people in pvp isn't a fun style of pvp unless you are some freak you likes to kill everyone then run to safe zone

warlock has so many skills to mess around with and its very good in pvp if you get warrior to lvl 10 for the knockback skill

not really, if a warlock can block or take 1 nuke from whoever attacking, they can then stun them or sleep them and change the whole situation around

Warlocks' nukes aren't strong enough to 1shot wizards. Say warlock has a 50% chance to block nukes (rediculous high BR i know), they both need two attacks. So it is (as almost always for euro char's) whoever attacks first wins.
