Note: This guide is completely intended for Beginners who have no clue about anything in this game.

If you would like to add to it, or find something wrong, please tell me and I will change or add to this.

Getting the game and getting started
OK, so the game is named Silkroad Online(we will now call it SRO), wow, we already know so much. You can get the game at http://www.silkroadonline.net

Download it and in order to play you will need to install the game and have an account. To register for an account, go to the homepage of the official website. There is a green button called Register now.

Image

After that, launch the game and Log In to the server you choose. (to change servers, click list which is right next to server)

About servers
There really isn't a BEST server, just newer and older servers. The servers Xian and Troy are the oldest and have the most lag. Aege, Babel, and Oasis are slightly newer and usually have less lag and less players. Venice opened not long ago, and Greece just opened. These two should have even less lag.

However, be aware that new servers have many botters who bot to get on top of the game early on. It is up to you to pick whichever server you would like to play on.

Creating a character
Assuming this is your first time playing, this is where you create your own character.

Image

In the character screen, there are many options. The only ones that affect how your player plays (only in the beginning) are the weapon and armor type. This being your first character, go ahead and choose what ever you want. I suggest you level your first character to at least 16 to learn and understand the basics of the game.

Quests and NPCS
You know you have a quest when you have an icon like this located right below the mini map (which is in the top right)

Image

To check quests, press the hotkey Q. There is a drop down box to see what part of the quest you are doing (and how much you have done) and there is a parchment on the far right that shows you the information about the quest again.

Skills
To get to skills, press S. This is the skills menu. There are two top tabs that have even more tabs.

The first of the tabs is Weapon and the second is Force. Weapon refers to the following Masteries: Bicheon (Sword), Heuskal (Glaive), and Pacheon (Bows).

In the other tab of Force, there are 4 Masteries: Fire, Ice, Lightning, and Force (Force is related to healing skills and has many other random skills)

Skills and your character level are independent of each other. You earn them together but you need more and more SP later on. You need skill experience to get Skill points. It is always 400 skill experience per skill point. The highest mastery level is considered your skill level.

Here is a list of Skills:

STR and INT, character stats
Unlike many games, this game has only two character stats: STRENGTH and INTELLIGENCE. (We'll call them STR and INT from now on)

Most people will dwell in only STR or INT. (these are call pures, like pure STR, or pure INT) There are some who use both STR and INT, usually in a ratio of 1 str, and 2 int. This allows them to have some health and still some INT damage.

Here's a great guide to Hybrids:
http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1746

STR is related to health and physical attributes like damage and defence. Basically more STR means more health, more damage from weapons, and more defence against physical attacks. STR users use strong weapons and imbue them with skills (basically fusing magic into a weapon to make it stronger). If you have more STR, you have a higher physical balance.

INT users are generally called Nukers because in SRO have these incredibly strong magic attacks under the force tabs. There is one for Fire, Cold, and Lightning that you can get at skill level 30. They use certain weapons that increase their balance in INT.

Weapons and Armors
STR uses the following weapons:
Glaive, Blade with shield, and Bows.

For armor, because they already have a lot of physical defence, you will use garmets.

INT uses the following weapons:
Spear, Sword with shield, and Bows.

For armor, because they have a lot of magical defence, you will use armor.

Ok heres how weapons work: Glaives and Spears are stronger then Blades and Swords, but they attack slower. Blades and swords also have shields (which are neat!) Bows are better off as STR in my opinion because INT already has ranged attacks (their nukes - the super strong magic attacks you get at level 30)

There are 3 armors: Armor, Protector, and Garmet.
Armor: It has a lot of physical defence, but low magic defence
Protector: It has medium defence in both physical and magic. Skills take 10% less Mana (the Blue Bar) and you run 10% faster then with armor
Garmet: It has a lot of magic defence, but low physical defence. Skills take 20% less Mana (the Blue Bar) and you run 20% faster then with armor.

Here is a guide to armor (more in depth)

Coordinates
These are found in the top right and tell you where you are in the world of SRO, you can tell friends your coordinates and they can find you. (With a little of human intelligence of course)

SOS, SOM, SOS
What do these mean? Seal of the Star, Seal of the Moon, and Seal of the Sun. They drop randomly and are incredibly rare.

These weapons are levels above their own. They are way stronger.
Seal of the star is about 5 levels higher
Seal of the moon about 10 levels higher
Seal of the sun about 15 levels higher

Monsters
Monsters come in two types: Aggresive and Non Agressive (Aggro and non aggro)
Agressive will attack you when you are in a certain proximity of them, while Non Aggro will not attack you until you attack them first.

When you click a monstar, it will have a name in a certain color, these are the colors and what they mean:

Blue: Way below your level, it is not worth much experience or skill experience
Teal: A little below your level, they are easier to kill but still give decent experience and skill experience
White/Grey: These are now your level, they aren't to hard to kill, and give you fair experience and skill experience
Orange: They are a little above your level and are hard to kill, they give you more experience and skill experience
Red: They can be a just a few levels above you or even 50 levels above you. They are hard to kill, hit hard, and give you a lot of experience and skill experience.

Monstars can be champions and giants. Not all monstars though. Champions are a little larger, and have about 2 times the life. They give you two times the experience and skills experience. They do a little more damage
Giants are a lot larger, they do a little more damage too. They have 15 times the life and give you 15 times the experience and skills experience. THEY ARE HUGE!

Parties
Press P to get to the parties menu. You can use Automatch to find parties not in your vicinity. There are two main parties, one for four people, and one for eight players. The 4 player party gives you 3% bonus experience per other person in the party (it excludes you, so there is a max of 9% bonus) The other party shares experience of players in the same area. These are not good to be in with random players because they will sit down and watch you kill and get experience off you. These parties are for you and your friends.

Leveling
Leveling speed is based off your character level and skill mastery level. In order to get a good balance, a difference between character and skill mastery level should be at least 3. That is, unless you SP farm. There are therads on that you can search in the forum.

Here is an in depth guide about leveling and Skill points and masteries.
http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic ... 43&start=0
This is the same guide as the one listed in Skills

Alchemy
Alchamy is using elixirs to make items stronger and better. Heres a guide for it:
http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=88

Messaging
The window for it is at the bottom left. In order to whisper someone, click their name if they type to you. If you want to talk to your Party/Guild/Union, click that tab. SRO uses a symbol system to note what your talking to.

If this is the window, this will type # and your message to talk to party if you didnt click the party window. Like this:
#Hey guys
The message that shows to your party is Hey guys

@ is for guild chat, % is for union.

To whisper without clicking their name use $theirname
For example, if i want to message Bob and say hey, it would be
$Bob hey bob

Make sure when your whispering that there is a space between your message and his name. His name IS CASE SENSITIVE

Jobs
Jobs can be done at level 20, but are hard to do at that level because of the super high leveled players.
The three of them are Hunters, Thieves, and Traders.

Traders are the basis of the game, they go town to town to trade items bought in the city. It is an investment.
Here are some guides:
http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=2815
http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1167

Thieves steal from traders who are at least 2 stars (stars are based on how much gear you carry) One star caravans are "untouchable" by theives.

Hunters protect Traders from NPC thieves (they aren't humans, they spawn near players who have camels and horses with gear inside)

Item Mall
This is a premium service you pay real life money to get "silk" in SRO. You get silk off the official website. In the game of SRO, you trade that silk for items.

seems like a good collection of information.

ideas:

1. add more info to the parties section, maybe include what share and distribute mean in depth a little more. and that 1 head icon equals dist vs two heads equals share.

2. spell check monsters to change monstars mis spellings ;)

3. maybe add a section to include pricing items so they have some idea of the value. i.e. this guide http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=2004

otherwise i think it should be very helpful to newer players.
