Continued from here (new thread for poll): http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=2169
Slayer6000 says that this is worth over 100k, and he apparently sold it for 180k. I say it's not even worth 50k.
My argument: it is a Seal of Star glavie, yes, but it's just lvl 8, and it's worse than a standard lvl 16 glavie. Since you can get from lvl 8 to 13 in a few hours of playing, and you can get a lvl 13 glavie that's just as good as this SoS glavie in just about every stall in Jangan, it's not worth crap.
Since it's lvl 8 it's even too low for sp farming, which you don't really start doing until lvl 13-14, when you've got your imbue at lvl 10 and the lvl difference becomes a bit bigger - at which time this glavie is no good anymore.
So please, vote to let me know if I'm right or wrong.
And the question is: what is the glavie WORTH, because that was his question, not how much can you sell it for if you're lucky. It's about how much YOU would spend on it if you were a lvl 8 glavie user.

I voted 25-50k, by the way. I could probably have voted lower, but I'm a lazy player, so I think it's worth 30-35k (if you have it) to be able to kill faster for a few hours.

Why not simply buy a lvl 20 glavie then? Why would a lvl 20 thief use a lvl 8 weapon? That just screams FAKE.

Agreed with Ryoko,
I have traded about three sos weopons all level 8 - glaive, sword, and blade and sold them for 280-300k,
Though this is on Xian

But why? If I saw someone with a thief suit (level 20 or higher required) who had a lvl 8 weapon, I would run in the other direction as fast as I could. Why nor buy a regular lvl 20-22 glaive? A lot cheaper, and no one can tell if you're lvl 20 or 60.

HELLLO!!!!
Could someone PLEASE tell me why a thief (by definition at least lvl 20) would want a lvl 8 SoS weapon?
If you see someone you know is at least lvl 20 with a lvl 8 weapon, what's the first thing you're thinking? That he's trying to pose as a low-level character.
Why not buy a standard lvl 20 or 21 glavie instead? That way no-one could tell. Could someone please tell me what I'm missing here.

ok. scenario:
i am lvl60. i've been lvl60 for months, and i have farmed all my sp, gotten all the skills i want, and have now achieved lvl4 thief with no problem. i'm so strong that i'm at the top of the food chain. no traders or hunters even TRY to challenge me. thieving is a joke. everyone who comes within 30 yds of me is mercilessly slaughtered.
BUT WAIT!! there's more to thieving than just getting goods and selling them. i want PvP! ... but no one will attack me! i'm too srong, with my +5 SoS lvl58 glaive...
SOLUTION!!! i'l buy a low lvl weapon - even a shiny SoS one!! - and prance around wielding that! then maybe some poor (lvl32+/lvl42+/lvl52+) hunter will attack me and i can have some FUN!! since my weapon is the only thing they can see while i'm suited, then there's nothing stopping them from falling into my ubar little trap, unless they know my name!!
this is just one example i could think of.

*sigh*
Is there no-one who actually reads the posts?
For the umpteenth time: why have a lvl 8 glavie? If there is ANYTHING that screams "I am a high level thief masquerading as a n00b", it's a lvl 8 weapon in the hands of a character who is at least lvl 20, and therefore have outgrown his lvl 8 weapon at least five levels ago (unless it's a SoS +5).
Why not buy a standard lvl 20-22 glavie instead? It looks more convincing, and it costs nothing.
(perhaps someone can answer that now that I've asked it eleventeen times...)

a lvl20-ish glaive is likely to mean a lvl20-ish thief. a lvl8 glaive makes you stop and think: what lvl is this person REALLY? it adds an element of mystery that can only be solved by a fight. also, some people (like BlackHand now) collect SoS gear for later use.
i try to read every post, but if one slips through - especially replies to threads - it can't be helped. easy there, killer.

it's not like everyone has to think the way you do marcato
maybe they want to fight low levels with a weaker weapon so they dont 1 hit kill them!

I'm angry because I've asked the same question three times, and people answer a completely different question.
And again - if you want to fight a low level character, why buy a SoS weapon? Why not buy a lvl 16 glavie that costs nothing instead? Why waste 200-300k on a lvl 8 glavie?

not EVERYONE in the game is going to see that level 8 glaive and recognize it for what it is. believe it or not, not everyone pays attention to these things. as for why nmot just buy a level 16 that costs nothing? 2 reasons i can think of.... it's shiny, and they have the money.
you of all people should know that some people will buy anything if it shines. didn't you have a really impressive collection of SoS stuff.... for a level 20 character? that's just crazy to me.

Could be goofy like me. They may like the graphic and the fact it's a pretty shiney-sparkly thing.
In EverQuest I'd get yelled at during raids because I was wearing the *pretty* armor and not the stat armor for the longest time.
I play for the fun and the adventure! (And to run amok and drive others completely insane in the process!) BlackHand - you've been warned!

I agree with Marcato. It makes absolutely no sense for someone to wear a level 8 weaopn when doing something that requires you to be at least level 20. Any multicellular organism who sees a thief/hunter/trader with a sub-lvl 18 weapon will know right away it's bullshit.
Why not try to look like some clueless level 20-25 noob on his first thieving trip not knowing he will get owned horribly by 98% of the people that can fight him rather than making it obvious that you aren't a legitimate low level thief because 1- seal of __ is very rare as a drop and very expensive so the average low thief who has no idea what's going on is more than likely not going to afford a seal weapon, and 2- because it's a weapon at least 10 levels below what a low level thief would wear.

ultimately, the point of this thread is to guage the worth of a specific weapon. many people have posted on this thread stating that they think it's worth nothing, and many have posted that they think it's work a lot. WORTH IS BASED ON DESIRE AND/OR NEED. if you can get someone to buy it for 250k, more power to you. if you can't unload it for even 20k, then that's ok too. but there's no right or wrong on something as subjective as this.
as to why someone would want one? Marcato, just because you don't agree with the reasons people may or may not want one doesn't mean that those reasons don't exist, or are invalid. everything people have posted has been based on either fact or opinion. there's no need to get angry, period.
