venture sounded like a good pserver, what happened to it? why dont you guys look into forming one together?

are the files not deep enough to just move away from silkroad and use its basic code as a source to build upon for a new game in the style of sro. pservers are illegal anyway, so cant be too bad lol.

also, you can earn great money with advertising on a website if it's seo and content is strong. i used to earn £100-300 a week when i was like 15 running final fantasy websites 'lol i know....' this was with around 7k visitors a day only. i'm almost certain a full website which would require staff could cover, or atleast pay for most of the costs.

a lodestone clone is a great way to get people using the website, along with a section for gaming news, graphic design...movies, music etc. all keywords with good seo will bring in visitors and maybe attract people looking for a f2p mmo!

this is going off topic slightly as just a way to boost revenue though. as i said, there are maybe 70-100 legits ready, another 100 is all we need...the website would help! infact, my old websites brought 3 guilds full of players back in 06 to isro as i simply stated i was playing it! lol

Wint already started doing such a thing a while back. I also offered my help and he told me to contact him, but he didn't say what he wanted done or how far the project was... I don't know how far the game is atm.

Yea, although my idea was a eu server with 1 tree per class only. Soloing would get much harder then. Especially for some builds like cleric or bards. However in pts (PvE and PvP) they are wanted badly propably. :)

Bard isn't all that bad, considering Cleric has almost no attack skills.

A combined sro server would be pointless and irrational.

About the new game, there are simply no people in the sro scene who can do it. And those who can, can obviously make an entire new game out of scratch, it would be quite stupid to limit yourself by basing it off silkroad while it's not necessary

It's not a good idea to make a new game based on an old game, but SRO has interesting parts that could work in another game and building around a small part is a better idea.

While I do think that the idea is interesting, I'm not sure if it'll work out.
Sure, it'll be fine for pve, but what about pvp at the cap? Wizards will be great, seeing as warriors and rogues won't be able to use cleric to keep themselves alive.

Basically, nobody will create bards or clerics seeing as they can do nothing once they cap.
Sure, it's fun for leveling, but most people would like to be able to also pvp once they have reached the cap.
This could - quite interestingly - be solved by making it possible to change build quite easily once you've reached cap. Basically, making it possible to very cheaply (or through trading / quests) reset all yours skills and / or stat points.

That would ensure that nobody would have to worry about playing a pure cleric till cap, seeing as they can always change to warrior / wizard / rogue / warlock once at the cap :)

Focus would not be on 1vs1 PvP - rather on group activities. In case there are not enough pt members: There could be tournaments for like 4vs4, 6vs6 or 8vs8 PvP (maybe possible to make different Battle Arenas for that?!). A pure wizard or a pure warrior pt wouldn't be successful. Support classes like cleric and bards will be needed. Also making a pure cleric pt won't be common as it would be a pain in the a** to "solo" level a cleric to cap - you will need other builds for form a decent pt.

Another option would be giving people the ability to cap one mastery, and then raise 30 levels of a second mastry. That way you could choose a second one for tactical reasons. Like cleric for noop bless, rogue for stealth, wizard for EB, etc.

Could kind of be cool.

And also entirely pointless. Nobody else on to make groups? Oh well, time to log off. GM's not online to make events? Welp time to leave. Time zone differ from everyone? Might as well not even play.

The suggestion about easily changing classes is bad too, you then end up with nothing but the 4 classes, mostly wars and rogues though, that can actually do damage. Might as well just remove the others.

Lol. You can easily solo a 1 mastery euro. Unless you're terribad.

Also, warriors and rogues are only op because of str healing. Remove heals, make a wiz or lock and laugh at how easily they die.

And then you end up with 1 of 4 classes and you're back at the exact same place you were before any changes. Overpopulation of wars and rogues with everyone not one of those a wiz and the people who like to annoy everyone with cheap tactics a lock. Pretty much makes all changes pointless

lol, I usually just look around and never really comment however the replies to this thread actually were so stupid. there's a reason why we all played SRO and the reason why we quit it - low rates. If you want to bring old players back, increase rates however make everything free, stop this bs donate4silk and w.e keep it all simple, make it 120cap, ensure everything works fine and you're done. no need to add a new alchemy system or new magic scrolls.

All you need to do is look at the private server section of EPVP forums and you'll see why any server will always fail.

100% legit = low population / dead server.
Allowing botting = server full of retards.

It wasn't just about the rates. The rates can stay at 1x imo, but there has to be more variety in gameplay, not just grind that ISRO was, that's what got me bored.

why not just create enhanced versions of existing builds.

take cleric for example, in a 100 cap server, allow certain skills from other classes to be used as secondary skills you can unlock with left over mastery points and stat requirements, int/str etc?

so full farm clerics will be high in int, and could look through any wizard, warlock or bard skill as they require int also and each skill from any secondary mastery will use further points. so a lvl 100 wizard nuke may use 50 mastery points, while another lvl 100 lock skill may use the same, but lower level skills obviously use less, maybe have a total of 250-300 mastery. this way we skip mastering classes, and have freedom over chosen skills, secondary to our main class.

could also have unique weapons/shields and armour that can grant unique abilities to further help enhance the unique feel to building your own class.

Focusing too much on group pvp = dead server in few weeks.
People aren't always online at the same time, and most old-time legits don't have 6+ hours per day to play anymore. And thus, they can't always be around to pvp in a group.

I say focus on solo pvp - you can always form groups if you want. It will happen no matter what.
But solo pvp will not happen if you make it ALL depend on group pvp.

str builds would need something to help with minor healing abilities too, for 1vs1 and pve. the best idea is regen abilities based on dmg dealt that won't heal 80‰ or whatever clerics can do these days. this is just off the top of my head, if it ever could be possible you would need to look into it massively to create a balance that'd work.

As I said, just an idea from me. And yes, as mentioned above 1vs1 would be pretty much pointless. Players should focus on group activities imo.

Also, I don't see why there would be a majority of rogues or warriors?! You're talking about 1vs1? A pt consisting out of rogues and warriors only would be crap - they couldn't stand a chance vs a pt containing a warr, cler, wiz and bard. Variety in classes would be the key to success.

There's an even bigger problem you aren't looking at. A server that relies on groups of people being online for anyone to be able to play how it was intended is doomed to fail from the start. It'll be dead in a week.

ok, so no 1vs1, what if a bunch of dd/dps builds are out ready to roll and no healers? or reversed etc. 1vs1 is a great time killer, why remove content when 1v1 and group should exist? don't remove player driven content, remove the shit sure, like elements 'i likef it tbh' or isto rates, but not pvp.

if you wanna group, then as with 1v1, go for it! i'd be bored shitless if it was all group pvp, i don't want help owning everytime i fight!

event wars in groups is fun, gw/fw etc. pvp tournaments, 1v1 or group too.

NO. 1x rates = deal breaker. Most of us don't want to slave at a computer screen all day to reach cap. Another great thing about increased rates is that you can make alts. I got to level and play my own wiz/cler, lock/cler, s/s nuker, and war/cler in both PVP and forgotten world on Salvation. 1x rates makes that impossible.

NO. 1x rates = deal breaker. Most of us don't want to slave at a computer screen all day to reach cap. Another great thing about increased rates is that you can make alts. I got to level and play my own wiz/cler, lock/cler, s/s nuker, and war/cler in both PVP and forgotten world on Salvation. 1x rates makes that impossible.

No, you can make leveling a lot faster without even touching the rates.

I don't understand why you would use any other mechanic besides increased rates to speed up leveling. What are the other options besides quests? All quests do is force you to grind at a certain mob. I'd rather have increased rates and grind at the mobs/spots I prefer.
