My name is Regius Kornél, I'm 19 years old now, almost 20. I started playing this game when I was 14 and stopped it when I was 17.
I study in a technical university now, and I cannot tell you how much do I regret wasting 3 years of the 4 years of secondary school. Everytime I think about this I either become angry, or feel so miserable about not being able to change the past. Those years I think are the best ones to start your real life. You are half-adult, yet still have sooo much free time. When you start studying you will have almost no free time! I'm triing to fix my lost time, triing to do the things what I missed : -Making friendship -Learning languages(very important ! ) -Learning things what I like (for me its programming for example) -Doing things what I like to do(here I mean contructive things, hobbies, not time wasters) But it is sooo much hard, and full of suffering. You learn like 8 hours a day + help to your family + eat + travel, and you still wanna do the things what I listed above. Sometimes I wish that a day would be 25-26 hours long.
Even in this situation, I thank God that I've put my faith in Jesus, and realised my self-destructing life. I cannot even imagine how terible would have my life become, if I realise this to late.
Most of you play with this game, because you have nothing to life for. The same was with me. You know, God created us to be in a relationship with him, and you cannot dodge this. Lot's of rich, famous and successful people realised that nothing can fill this gap in their life. You can level up, over and over, and kill more and more uniques. But when you reached your goal, you will feel like "okay, now what?", like I did. I killed Uruchi when I was lvl38. We lured him to a secret place with my friends. When I saw the line "[RagadozoHUN] killed Uruchi from Tarim Basin" everyone was sending me congratulations, and I felt so empty. I was triing to act in the chatbox like someone who is very happy , but in reality wasn't.
We cannot get in a relationship with God without help. We did things against his law, and they are separating us from him like a wall.(and no good deeds of yours can demolish this wall.) That's why he sent Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ took our sin on himself, and died on the cross because of OUR sin. That's the whole point of the christianity ! That's how we can be free from our sin, and be in relationship with God.
Yes, being a computer addict is a SIN! Because you are serving that , like if it would be a god ( idolatry ). But you can be free from : -having no friends, just some "mates" -having no goal to your life -hoping every day that game will become better in the next update, but it just becomes worse -suffering at every hour when you don't play -suffering from missing good opportunities in real life. -suffering from thinking all the time about the game, when you don't even play it. John 8:36 So if the son sets you free, you will be really free
I offered you a way to get free, and have a meaningful life. But even if you don't accept the second part of what I said, at least accept the first. Please don't play any MMORPG at all. It just simply takes away everything from you. You think real life is bad? Why it is bad? Because it is filled with bad and evil people. You know what? MMORPGS are exactly filled with the same bad and evil people. But here, because they are behind anonimity, they can be more evil than they would be in real life, making MMORPGs WORSE than real life...
Thank you for reading this.

tl;dr
If you had fun they aren't lost years, if you played because you had to then yes you los those years. But feeling bad about the past is just a waste of time, you're better of focusing on the future.
I cannot be sure how others feel about the game, so this idea that most people have nothing to live for and so play this game is sketchy. Which I would like to identify as something which is an assumption, and therefore I would say is false in its likelihood. Reality itself is in a tunnel, a reality tunnel, when it comes to perspective. And without perspective there isn't much of a point to live in the sense of an emotional standpoint, i.e. singular cell organisms Vs. a human being in motivation to live. So with that, people that play Silkroad Online have their own reasons. What those reason are we cannot be sure. Although in a broad sense, most people play because it is fun.
Addiction is not a problem unless you let it become one. So the idea that it is a sin (here I compare sin with problem) is far too general and too easy to say. I am not interested in your religion, so I am not going to trail too into any sort of topic about the nature of sins or etcetera in relation of religions, so here I will stop commenting on it.
The goal of MMORPGs is something we could compare to single-player games. When you reach the ending of the game it ends and that is that. And that's precisely what entertainment is and what does, it gives you enjoyment. What I am saying is that destination isn't the main goal as some superficially believe to be and evidently ignore the actual core of the game. The play-through. Although Silkroad Online isn't something which we could compare statically to single-player games, since it is seen from two ideas, two perspectives. People bot in this game, which hasten the process of the core game and removes it from play. Which then SRO becomes comparable to games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Counter-Strike, or Quake, basically FPS sort of games, or say RTS. Such games that are competively driven and its core does not depend on an actual play-through. Instead you are dropped in. Although I do realize nowadays FPS games do have a system where you earn ranks and etc., but MMORPGs basis depends on the system of such a playthrough where you grind with fellow players for long periods of time. This is what makes the game. Although the qualities of the grind is up for opinion, there is no denying factor that without the grind Silkroad Online is really a PVP orientated game.
What is my point?
You had a problem with Silkroad Online because you did not feel whole in time spent playing the game. And it seems you still do not feel whole and are dreaded because of time spent on the game. And it may have been because you think the game, or games as you said MMORPGs, are worthless because when you had reached a said goal you felt empty afterwards. The game does not take away from you, instead it gives you things. It's up to you on how you'd like to use these things are given to you. And if you can't use it anymore because you had finished the book, then that's that. You had your fun. Or at least some (maybe?) fun in your playthrough.
Say. This sounds like a quote.. "Life isn't about the destination, but the adventure."

You have the right to say that your life sucked, but just because your life sucked doesn't mean ours does. I have a beautiful girlfriend, we have been dating for 10months now, and I have a life, I work for my city, I go to college, I have decent grades, I go out, I go to the movies, I go clubbing, I socialise a lot, just because I play silkroad or any other MMORPG doesn't make me an addict. Yes I buy silk, but I have enough money for that while being able to spend for other more personal things too.
Watch out before you start attacking everyone and telling them that their life is like yours just because it happened to you. By the way im 18 years old. I started silkroad at 12 - 13 years old.
And not everyone believes in god. So stop blindly accusing us thanks.

I will not force you to stop playing neither to convert you. I cannot. God gave all to you the free will to choose. I just told you a part of my life, what did I do wrong, and what helped for me. I just don't want others to do the same mistakes I did. If you are in the same situation, there is your cure. If you're not, then I could talk years, I couldn't persuade you.

Generally the people that play here, play for fun, and have a life, and most of this community has stopped playing silkroad, believe what you want, but don't try to recruit people, this isn't some geova recruitment centre, we don't need that. And cure's are pills and health care centres, believing that god made you stop isn't totally true. You just focused on something else than games. That is the church. People that play can do the same with anything else, for example someone which finds a passion in a certain sport, could say it cured him from playing MMORPG, so yea please, jesus this jesus that, you can obviously see that I don't believe in god, but stop trying to change other people's way with your ridicoulous quotes. People believe what they want, stop trying to change that, say that stuff in a church, maybe you'll get less hate. This forum isn't a church... Now please, let the few people on this forum that still play, alone, and go on with your future life, that to you seems better without games.
Religion in general is full of so many inconsistencies, it's hard to know what is the true message and what is random bullshit people added over time. I digress though, this is GD, not OTL.

im not gonna flame your religions views like some others might, but ill say im agnostic so i disregarded a lot of your post. im 18 and can say im just about the same place you are in wishing i didnt waste so much of my time on this game. back when i was young i used to play 4-5 hours a day. today i play about 3 hours a day but since im not in school i have a lot more time and as soon as the gov stops being slow and i start working i probably wont be playing at all. but my social life never suffer from playing this game. this in the only mmorpg iv ever played btw. not everyone here can be considered a "sro" nerd like your inferring. i still played sports, went to school events, hung out with friends almost every day. now that i think about it, i only started playing cause im an insomniac. but point is not everyones life is destroyed by this game like you believe.
It's never the game's fault, it's always your fault. If a game begins to have a great influence on your life, then it really is your fault. It means that as a person you are not strong enough to combine free time with your responsibilities. It also means you're very sensitive for addictions. So you should actually be glad that it was game you were addicted to and not to drugs or some other f*cked up sh!t.
Also I think it's your parent's responsibility to keep an eye on you. When I used to play Runescape I was still quite young and I also spent alot of time on the game, though I wasn't addicted. But as soon as my parents noticed that I was spending too much time on a game, they immmediately limited the time I could spend on my PC. You say you were 14 when you started playing the game, that's still a young age and I understand if you didn't unbderstandc the problem of your addiction at that age. Your parents should have interfered.

Your own disability to manage time wisely does not mean everyone else has the same problem; you're projecting a false sense of personal significance here. You ending your addiction had little to do with finding Jesus and more to do with complex, self-imposed psychological manipulations which you were unaware of that built up over time until eventually your situation of being hopelessly addicted bubbled up into awareness which prompted action from you. I would've addressed your other erroneous statements, but there's only a 60,000 character limit. For the record, I don't play SRO.

"Free will" isn't very free if it has to be given to you. That defeats the purpose.
You had me until you said you were religious, i agree on the other parts, but i don't regret playing. It's all about prioritizing your time. Do that correctly and you have nothing to regret. Can't say i knew that when i was 15 myself but i do now
Kori0129, I respect what your trying to do. Really, I do.
But as you've already seen, 99% of the people here on the forums are highly anti-religious. Debating religion over the internet is futile. The second you mention Jesus, they get all defensive and start spewing forth their rebuttals to your faith. *Which these days seems to be in the form of posting Youtube videos*. As if they actually think that a video is going to have some life-altering message that will change what you belief in 5 minutes time.
So yeah, I like what you're trying to do. But it won't change anything. Nice to know there's another another believer on here though. I think that brings our total of believers up to like, 5 people? Whoo! ; )
Oh and I love you people who are all like, "It's not an addiction! I moderate how much I game! I have a life! blah blah blah". Okay, if that's really true, then that would mean you've never played SRO or any other MMORPG when you could have hung out with your real friends, girlfriend, or family. Ever.
I'll be the first to admit I've done that above. And I know you all have too. So don't act all self-righteous.

Just don't.
I think you mis understood, he clearly said that because he played he had no friends, or atleast no time to see them... This is not my case, I do play, and well I would never say no when my gf ask if she could come over, or do something. The ONLY time I said no to a family affair, was going shopping with my mom, and that is not my thing...
And when my friends ring me up and ask me what im doing I act like a hypocrit and say im just lurking on some forums, and facebook, and if they ask me to go hang out at a bar or something, I pt aside sro and go hang out with them. No way has my sro controlled my life, or chose how I act and reply to invitations...
I used to go to my friend's house and we would play sro all night because he had 3 computers, and we would hunt down TG and stuff at lvl 15 and 16 so yea good times.

why are you generalizing the entire gaming community. you have no idea what any of our lives are like, you dont know anything about us. you make it seem like if you play any mmorpg or time consuming game then you have no life, no social connections, no time for anything else. i spend so much time with my friends and family they would be surprised to know that i play this game, and that is the honest to god truth no doubt in my mind. this is part of the reason gamers have a bad rep. yes, gaming is an addiction and yes there are some no lifers out there but it doesnt mean everyone is that way. people are more responsible with time management than you believe. you gotta open your eyes and see the whole picture, not just what you want to see or what the mass media shows you

Calm down Mr.Defensive.
Stereotypes exist for a reason. Of course there are exceptions to every rule. No need to get your panties in a bunch.
Also, I love the way you threw the "what the mass media shows you" and "what you want to see" lines in there. Insinuating that I have no actually experience with the gaming world at all. And that I'm ignorant and get all my info from the "mass media". It's so incredibly far from the truth though, that it makes me laugh.
i wasnt insinuating anything. i know a lot of people believe everything someone says and dont really form their own opinions. i dont know what type of person you are so if it doesn't relate to you then just disregard it.
