I guess they aren't big enough, I didn't go up anymore after that...

Also another thing you can't make out in that video, but happens is the tower seems to move. I don't know if it flexes maybe inchs in light wind or if its a matter of feet, but you sure as hell feel it. Those lines that hold it steady only go so far :soosad:

Yeah, it's probably the line.

We had those 2 locks that you could easily open just by forcing it with your thumbs. My cousin didn't realize he was holding on to it until I told him to stop touching the fucking thing lol.

I'd take that job only if they let me jump off and paraglide down when I am done working...who the hell wants to climb back down? takes too long....I imagine the pay is insane though....But I bet the antenna itself that sits on the tower is precision engineered to opperate for long periods without failure. It only makes sense because to have a couple of guys climb up to repair it must be expensive not to mention risky..

Something else...this tower must be very costly for it's hieght..not just in materials and the labor to build it.....but engineering standards dictate that a communication tower should have a space around its base that it is equivalent to its hieght + a few meters..in the case of this tower I'd say a few 100 meters. So if the tower falls over nothing is within that radius....So whoever owns this tower has to buy all that land around it as well....I work for the largest telecommunications provider in my country and we ourselves have a few towers but none of them near this size.

Judging by your words... I don't believe you do work for any kind of telecommunication company... or you are just out of the loop on how these towers are built and ran.

umm ok sure thing buddy....The only thing there I might have not mention was that the owners might not have to buy all that land surrounding the base of the tower but pay a monthly/yearly fee to the local municipality. Not to mention securing the rights of way to build it there. But you don't go building a communication tower where if it falls you got causalities on your hands.....

I'll admit I don't know every detail that goes into a project of that size but I do know quite a bit about it.....There are lots of things I purposefully didn't mention because it wasn't relevant to the topic...I won't even bother arguing with you if you're gonna talk like you know what I do for a living based on a few words.....I'm out

lol. I didn't speak about what you "do", but what I believe you don't do.

-I just found it to be a little funny you thought they build towers in the middle of what seems like nowhere because the chance they would fall over on someone.

-Also the fact you didn't point out this wasn't actually a "guided" tower, but a guyed mast seems a bit odd to me. Coming from someone that works in the field of telecommunications, I'd expect that to be a no brainer .

Well that is the general rule with towers of that kind and size (even some smaller ones). Guy wires can break and the tower can snap due to resonance cause by wind or earthquake. Not mention events caused by people (accidental or intentional). I know a lot of those things are accounted for in the design and management but you're still liable if its your tower.

Fairly hard for a tower's guy wires to break seeing that towers are free standing. You really don't get why they are located where they are? Also land is cheap-undeveloped acreage like that.

I don't need to mention anything about it having guy wires from its base or just at the mast... whether you think its a no brainer or not because this isn't a discussion of knowledge of towers. And yes I do know why towers have guy wires...and if you were reading you'd see what I said...in the event of resonance each guy wire will be stressed and can break thus leaving the tower vulnerable for calapse if it should lean one way too far

I was speaking of location of the towers not the guy wires. Anyways we're getting way off topic. Good luck with your career.

Yea its with skyscrappers as well. They generally tend to sway a few inches, or feet if the wind is severe.

why would the location of the tower be surprising or questionable? should it be sitting in town or at the edge of town? ...I've seen crains fall into buildings and across streets..sometime in 2 or more houses..... why would the location of a tower that size be a mystery?....

And just because I said I work for a large telco doesn't make me an expert on communication towers because that is just one aspect of telecommunications....a part which I'm indirectly linked with but no focused in....in case you wanted to know.

I'm going purely off your own words.

When actually built like it is, it would be relatively cheap compared to if it were an actual tower. The reason it is out in the middle of nowhere is all to do with how they work. They also put them on top of tall buildings as well. If everyone was afraid they'd fall over on top of them we'd not have tall buildings either. Also if what you say is true you'd see buildings outside of the radius of the mast but yet there are none for miles.

Sorry for going on, just a little naughty of you to be telling us "facts" about things you aren't familiar with, that would be like Cell talking about peeing while standing up.(He just wouldn't know what he's talking about.)

-Yes there is a term "guyed tower" yet this would not fall under that term.

1- buildings are more structurally sound because they house life. They're not just some thin radio tower.

2 - "Also if what you say is true you'd see buildings outside of the radius of the mast but yet there are none for miles." don't be stupid...none for miles only means there is no development yet which in the future might be but only up to that fall radius and NOT beyond.
