I really don't know why the release date is such a mystery. Even a vague idea of it would be considered a mystery by the team.

On top of that, it's a very touchy subject. The team litteraly made a rule about it:
Quote:
Q: When will the server be released?
A: Unknown, do NOT ask.

Why so touchy? Even when not directly asked when it will be released, I noticed the team just changes the topic quickly.

These are all questions that need to be answered. You don't get people to believe you and be more patient by increasing the doubts, that's just counter-productive. You get people to believe you and be patient by telling the truth and explaining things.
So is it that the release date is so far away from now that you know you'd be just turning off everyone if you said it, or is it that you just don't know how to handle this kind of things? Last year, I recall there was a point you said it would be released during Summer. It was a lie. The lie was probably there so you wouldn't turn people off, if you would have said it would be out in two years no one would have waited. What would stop you from doing the same thing again?
With this private server you got people who are willing to wait for you to open it. For some people, you're actually wasting their time. Sure you can say it's their responsability if they're wasting their time, but you can't say it's not your fault either since you've been advertising the server years before it could even be released. Even if the server is to be released in three years, at least say it so people know when to come back and begin getting ready, gather their guilds, plan their builds and all that. It would arrange everyone and you wouldn't be getting bothered. So be honnest, at this rate when do you believe it will be opened?

The reason I put it that is so that I don't have 1,000 Turks PM'ing me saying, "hý, when ýs sewer open?"
A date cannot be put on the server for the fact being that bugs are unpredictable.
I cannot explain it as well as the others because I just recently started looking into eSRO after vaguely looking into it a year ago. Why doom stopped working on the server for some time or why it has been delayed I can't tell you exactly.
I do know they have changed sources multiple times which leads to massive delays.
This server will be opened in the next months, I have played in their CB and the server is stable and has all functions you need to grind and level up. Currently doom is working on the mapping, he has had some bugs in the navmesh and he has already redone it, now he has ran into another problem for example.
Coding a server leads to very unpredictable bugs and problems.
And no, we haven't been advertising, we supply information about the server, there's quite a difference.
I do know this server will be opened, if doom had other coders working on it this server would have been done long ago or if doom was a robot.

This kind of stuff is what I ment. But ok, unlike what everyone else in the team has been doing for a year you've actually tried to explain things and explain why we could keep our hopes up for it opening within the next few months, so thank you. :)

I would happily give you a more exact date but I cannot, if I was coding the server myself I could.
My estimate is CB in 2 weeks, it has gotten pushed back due to navmesh having bugs, the problem with it now has been found and doom is going to work on it. After navmesh there's really not much left at all for CB, just upload some files and make some small fixes and we're good to go.
When CB is up again I'll post pics of whatever you guys would like on esro forums, possibly videos if I feel up to it.
I cannot supply pics of the arena, caves, CTF, FW, and such as they haven't been implemented yet as they are trying to keep it down to the minimal to get this server out sooner.

Whats left to be done from the next CB to the OB then, considering he gets those small fixes and the navmesh thing done?

CB will just be checking for any overlooked bugs and maybe testing item mall, seeing as how Prem, GT, SP ticket, Devil Spirit and such aren't functional yet.
There's really nothing left, navmesh is the last major thing I'm aware of. The only problem with it right now is you can't cross bridges, which is probably a pain in the arse to fix.

OB will be to look over and bugs that are left and to see how stable the server is with many people in it.

Well, we're not sure about CB in 2 weeks, it could be shorter, or longer. That's why we don't distribute release dates, to prevent people that are waiting to be disappointed.

CB is merely fixing bugs that are a threat to stability or economy, OB is more like a stress tests and to fix less important features and bugs

Hey Rawr and Atibu...

I registered on the forums a while ago but it still doesn't work for me. They say they sent an email for confirmation but I didn't get the email. When I try to log on, I get this message: "The specified username is currently inactive. If you have problems activating your account, please contact a board administrator."

I checked my spam box, the activation email isn't there.

Help pl0x?

I got the same problemwhen registering... apparently right now only an admin can activate your account. They activated mine manually, just go on IRC and tell them about it.

Sorry, I don't see how providing what type of server it is would help them hack a server.

Here's my specs of my "server" at home:

P4-3.06 HT
4 GB RAM
500 GB hard drive
Linux

That's what he's asking for. Does no good without the IP address which will become public eventually anyway.

Well Im just an overly suspicious person when people on the internet ask stuff like that or try to borrow stuff from me in a game etc etc

Besides it just seems suspicious, I mean what if he is a REAL hacker?
(not to mention the fact that the guy has 20 posts in less than a year...asking something like that)

I mean in theory, if he knew the specs of the server and was a hardcore hacker, he could easily just find the vulnerabilities with those pieces of hardware, determine the software that would be able to run on it depending on the purpose its being run for, write a program. . .or other hacker stuff and seriously fk some sht up

Yeah... Tin Foil hat maybe but If I were running a server that will eventually have money involved, I would keep any info on it tight like the pentagon.

but hey, Maybe I should just make my tin foil hat a little bigger. . . :sohappy: <---crazy man face

Hi,

I am aware of this problem with account activation, though eckoro denies it. So if you are 100% sure that you filled in the right email (an active email) i'll ask eckoro to take a look.

About the specs,

We currently have a sponsered server thanks to vitinetworks.eu:

Quad core xeon

36 gigs of ram

located in 'The Netherlands'

I won't disclose more information, and this is the only setup i'm aware of.

/facepalm

You really think a "real" hacker can get through based on POSSIBLE vulnerabilities? Well, um, sure, given enough time, almost any system can be compromised, but jeez...

What if they're running on a VM slice? C'mon, give these esro guys some credit.

heheh, that's my point... :P

"ooh, you have a Xeon!"

Plus with all the motherboards out there, how likely is it that a hacker will know the exact vulnerability and be able to exploit it?

what? how can asking the specs of the server lead to hacking it? OMG! is that even possible? well it is possible provided that you are given physical permission to have your hands on the server and the esro team would put a bullet in your head but remotely? no way! and what good does hacking do anyway? i dont even know how to photoshop well and your already accusing me of being a "HACKER" and how does having less than 20 posts a year make me a hacker? i have a life you know..not just stay in the forums all day and posting any kind of SPAM post just to raise post counts..i was just asking the specs of the server..lolz

you can say that i'm ranting here but im just defending myself cause all i did was ask and i was accused of being a "HACKER" poor me :(..

You're not a hacker - you haven't done a good enough job of hiding your info. I already know your cell # and where you live ^_^ - at least the country.
