With the recent bannings I started to wonder. It seems a GM doesn't have to be physically present in the game to know if someone is botting. I've heard a long time ago that GMs have tools that can detect all those who are botting.

If you were a GM or know one from this game or some other game please elaborate. If this is true then what da hell were all those GMs doing in the past when SRO was in its early days?. And what are they doing now about these player botters that are still in the game?

There a two things:

Technical
Finding out the char route and finding third party software trough out the use of third party software that controls the security of the game. This is done automaticly and that is the system where the guy in the email was refering to.

Just beeing online with the community has many advantages
1) The community knows your there and it gives them the feeling you give a crap and
2) You can see it 'Physical' if the player is cheating / hacking or exploit the game in a wrong way.

Remember that its just a computer game, everything is logged and everything can been seen without the GM's are realy in the game. Just logon the server and they can see every chat every inch you move every gold transfer that is make, you can see it.
They also should have player stats and history of you. Don't think GM is a nice Job, its crap exually to much to worry about and GM != just beeing in game.

Lol, that's and outdated msg, before the 1st 2nd 3rd warning policy implemented,
you will most likely get it if your email tile is "Banned" "Got banned" or anything with banned on it.

send an email title "Got banned"
BUT your actual msg, saying something like: was joking, I did not get banned, but praising them for their work on actually banning players. xD

So if they can indeed detect that a person is botting...why haven't they ban the hundreds and hundreds of bots over years then? Even now there are still gold bots and player bots
.

Yep you are right, the server logs all your movements for let the GM's check them.

So they can ban goldsellers or bots without be logged in.

Secret, but is not a java web app, is the SMC GUI for control Silkroad servers. Pretty old btw, pic took in 2005.
