I don't need a boycott to tell me a game isn't worth shit. I saw the trailer way back when it first came out like everyone else did and said "Wow. It's the same god damn game."
At this point I could easily shell out money for the next installment of the rehashed Quake engine CoD game that should have died after its first sequel, but to be honest I don't think getting that same experience out of a new game is worth the investment. L4D 2 is the same way. Why buy a new game when you're getting the same shit in different packaging?
"Way back when" was prototype footage, the final product is still not out. You never played L4D2 so you can't say it's "the same way".
I don't think anyone is entitled to bitching and moaning until the game is out and they have tried it/rented it, whatever.

except for me. i can bitch and moan at the same time. ^_^

I'm entitled to whatever the hell I want, it's my money.
And do you honestly think it's going to be any different? No wonder you guys are buying it, they have you under their thumbs.
Then you are blindly judging and assuming. People do that way too much on this forum I noticed >_>
Back to the point in bold.
Yes I do honestly think it's going to be different, even if it was a slight difference I wouldn't care, I enjoyed what the first one offered.
Now anyone buying it is brain washed? I'm not pissing my pants in excitement over this game, I just find it amusing at all the QQing over it. I would not be shocked if somehow all the tears gained them even more money in the end.

i stil hold the arguement there have been fantastic games that use the same technology as there predesesor yet have surpassed them or have been just as worth while to buy.
sacchin is right, you dont buy the game we do we have fun you revel in your own illogic, might not the be the game of the year but its better then 90% of what came out this year i mean seriously we had some terrible games this year and im sure you bought least 1 of them

The video showed us many things. That right there rules out any "blind" judgment. Now lets go over the beloved "changes" L4D 2 offers:
- AI Director "2.0"
The latest version of scamming people into thinking there is anything more to it than randomly generating paths for the players to take, and throwing in handfuls of enemies when things die down. Outstanding.
- New Campaign
Okay. So instead of just adding campaigns to L4D 1, we went and decided you can have them all in a fantastic new $50 package! The neutered and title-exclusive online community comes as a complimentary addition. You wanted a dark hollywood style zombie experience? Well f*ck you! Here's sunlit New Orleans instead. Enjoy the clowns!
- New Weapons
Hey, lets just tack on some more stuff that could have just been DLC for the original game! Melee weapons? You got it! Now you can plow through crowds of zombies like never before! Are you having fun yet? You bet you are, you paid for the new game!
- New Enemies
Of course a new setting needs new enemies right? We definitely need some other reason to get people to buy this mod with a retail price tag. Lets take some crappy ideas suggested by the community and butcher them, they'll like that for sure. Oh, and be sure to re-skin and change a couple of the horde zombies so they fit.
- New Characters
Great, now we have even more cultured one-liners to listen to. At least they covered their asses by adding another black character. It's just too bad that the only thing they offer to the gameplay is their silly stereotypical comments. They might as well be anyone, right?
Holy cow I can't wait to shove my money down Valve's throats, this is brilliant!
Did you all bother to notice that there are NO changes to gameplay whatsoever? The only things that even come close are the addition of melee weapons and whatever minor tweaks they made to the man behind the curtain we know as the AI Director. Which is just a fancy term for "level and enemy randomization" in case you haven't figured it out yet. They have to make playing the same 15 levels over and over again interesting somehow. And speaking of levels, why does that have to be in a new game? I don't know they just released a new campaign for L4D 1. Seems a bit odd that they decided this batch was worth its own new price tag.
The only differences between both games are the sights and sounds. Everything listed as "New" is just a goddamn replacement to make you think it's new.
I have seen independent developers who make NOTHING from their efforts churn out more quality than this. Take the FH mod for BF1942 and BF2 for example:
Those mods make the FH devs no money, yet Valve believes you should pay them for the same amount of content. You people are just showing them that they were right to believe you would pay them for it, too. No Farking wonder Call of Duty is going down the shitter, the same thing is happening with them.
You guys will be paying for a mod. Skins, levels and weapons, nothing more.
And again with the QQ comments. Nobody is crying over this. You bitch at us for saying it's not worth the money, we give you reasons, and then you insist it's just WE who are the ones causing bullshit. And for god's sake it's just a game, people. Why the hell do you care about our reasons for saying it's a shitty game?
L4D2 is not worth my money, end of story.
If you want to throw your money at the next new paint job, then that's your choice. I'll wait for something that's actually worthwhile. RO: Heroes of Stalingrad looks like a great choice so far.

You still never played this game and the final product is not out, so how can you say it's shit? Can you answer that? I'm not bitching about anything, I'm asking why everyone is judging this game when they have never even played it yet. Have you seen me say it's awesome or it's great? No.
I recall QQing over incinerary rounds being "unrealistic" in a zombie game.
I saw nothing new in it that wasn't a skin, map, or sound.
Also, the fact that incendiary rounds are in a zombie game isn't unrealistic.
It's the way they believe incendiary rounds set things on fire. AR-15s don't usually have 50 round magazines either, but at least that's plausible in reality.
I saw nothing new in it that wasn't a skin, map, or sound.
The videos are not the final product because it's not out. That is not solid proof of what the game is going to be like >_> Watching a video is not the same as playing it. That is poor proof you have to judge on.
Sacchin, developers don't misrepresent their products.
What you see is what you get. This is true for EVERY trailer for EVERY game.
Would you say you're building a car, and then show everyone a truck? It doesn't work that way.
A month or so (Possibly even shorter) before Prototype was released, Alex's looks were different, the monsters were different and some other things. So no, that's incorrect actually. Things can also be delayed and suddenly changed. I've also seen this with figures.
Example: Pre-Prototype
Final Prototype

Yes, but did they show you anything in the videos that was removed/changed in terms of gameplay?
That rarely happens, if ever.
Judging by the huge abundance of L4D2 videos I doubt much will change either. I mean, shit, even if they did, all the weapons and enemies from the first game are still in there. It's supposed to be a new game and they went and left the old stuff right in there anyway.
Remember when RE4 was still in Japan and not the US? International titles are always going to have variations between pre-release and final release. In fact, this happens in most games that originate in Japan that later get translated and reworked for worldwide releases.

Remember that video of the ghost Hookman, that was chasing Leon around in Resident Evil 4 before it was released? Notice it's not over the shoulder view?
Code: Select all
Well you can assume and guess things all you want about L4D 2 but none of it is legitimate until it's released.
Tell me. What could Valve pull out of their ass to make this not look like a mod?
What could they do to the gameplay to change it enough to justify retail price? They already have a date set for release, so if all the videos out there are wrong, what could they possibly do to make it different? What could they do from now to the 17th of November? Provided the game hasn't already gone gold.

Play it and find out? The only option both sides can do.

game play is the same as in a lot of other games
you have a gun and you control the person holding it, you need to shoot the others, it takes aspects from rainbow 6 style games for team work and physics of hl2 engine which i believe is more specifically the havok physics which is used in bioshock, red faction gurilla
my point is every Farking game is only a minor upgrade of a colaberation of other games some games hit the right mix and enchance what they made to start off with ie this
gameplay ffs its a shooter there isnt a lot of change that can be done with it given 10 year l4d2 would stil inherit the same god damn gameplay
as for retail price its not an expansion and not a mod we pay full retail, we get it your not buying i will and im sure il enjoy it, iv paid more for less in the past, iv bought shit games least i can sit happily knowing its going to be very least equal to l4d
unless you stop quoting the same lame arguments as the boycott group i will only ever see you joining the bangwagon
oh to clarify what do you expect of a sequal, improved gameplay (not changed improved so new ai director) new story (check), new characters (not needed to make a sequel but check anyways) new enemies (check), new maps (check)
am i missing something

Yeah. The part where you started believing they actually did anything with that "AI Director."
And the part where you believed changing it made the game any different.
You two are insufferable. Fanboyism at its finest.

I totally picked the best topic to read when I got my new pc working. Getting luls from both sides of the argument. In case anyone is curious, I'm of the opinion that l4d2 is an expansion at the most

If people out there dont want to buy this game then dont, its your choice and its your decision, likewise why do you feel the need to come onto forums and bitch and moan about it?
Its like you have to justify why you dont want to buy the game to the rest of us when we really couldnt give a damn either way. When simply not buying it would have the exact same result as well.

I find it funny that they don't want to accept Reise has his own opinions.
Gotta love game companies who hunt on people that are willing to accept a paint job to the game.

soo what would you call the new features for ai director?
and as for your other point its how progress is made small improvement mean a big improvment in the future the next game will make more small improvments then compare that to l4d 1 and you will see the difference

Clever advertising.

Remember how successful and well regarded Portal was? I wouldn't say it was a small improvement, it was completely and radically different from everything we were used to. It was the first game and everyone loved it for the most part. I wonder if its success has anything to do with being so different...
