you have fun getting wrecked by level 100 turks because you are 76?

you simply cannot enjoy the "endgame" this game has to offer.. which isn't much but varying forms of pvp.. unless you are capped..

The nationality of the player who is wrecking me has nothing to do with it. I don't see what being from Turkey has anything to do with it.

If you don't want to get wrecked by lvl 100s, don't PVP right next to them. PVP doesn't have to happen at Samarkand South. I never understood that about PVP. Everyone seems to PVP right outside the gate. Then they complain about high levels, or complain about people skipping in and out of the safe zone trying to make people murderer, blah blah blah. If everyone PVPs in the same spot, of course there will be high levels there to wreck you.

Isn't that the definition of insanity? Repeating the same action expecting different results.

I don't know about you, but I would think PVP would be more fun with friends, or guild/unionmates in some random area of the map. Do it with people you know are not (probably) going to smack you around because they are 30 levels above you. Then you could PVP at almost any level. It doesn't have to be an endgame thing.

Then again, what do I know? I'm just a lowly lvl 54 (or 38 or 83 depending on server).

As far as I know, Joymax wouldn't even see your computer's MAC address if you're behind a NAT-enabled router any more than they'd see your computer's IP address. Joymax would only see your router's IP and MAC address. I'm not even sure your router's MAC address would be sent outside of your ISP's own network. Now if you're talking IP ban, that would ban the entire network where the offending person logged in.

If you get IP banned while playing from a college dorm room, the entire college network (maybe just dorm level) would be banned.

Internet cafe? The entire cafe would be banned.

If my wife starts botting, I get banned too.

If your wireless router isn't secure enough, and some kid with a laptop rides by, logs in, and starts botting, you're banned.

Edit: On second thought, from Joymax's perspective, that might not be such a bad thing. There's a bot? IP ban it. Who cares if there 'might be' legits on that network. Perhaps botters will think twice about botting if their actions have more of a direct impact on everyone around them.

lol maybe the case but each network card on a computer has a specific MAC address I'm sure they could just individually ban those mac addreses, maybe add in their ToS that they will be checking MAC addresses for each computer that log's on sro and if you bot it gets banned.

and @ penfold, you dont HAVE to use the bot in JD. its just there if you want to. set it when you go to take a shit, or if you have to do something real quick. the game is what you make of it, and if you choose to set your esper up all the time, then dont blame the game blame yourself. and i very much like the click on peoples names to find them, as i am very confused in that game still.

That's the point. Ppl are moron because they destroy their own game. Ppl can use fire (to cook, etc...) or set fire (to burn their own house) ie instead of using a built-in game feature (bot) in a regular way, they somehow abuse it (ksing, etc...). So they destroy their own game (because they are all morons).
=> my point is still valid: users control fire

ps: like you said, user don't "have" to use bot. But in reality, I can guess the majority use them.

and @Penfold
I have experienced low level party play on tsro. With Fable Union. It was sooo fun. Until they IP Banned us all. If Silkroad wouldn"t have bots it would be fun. No one would be capped. Except for a few addicts, and they would get the reward for their hard "work".

I'm not quite sure if you are sarcastic but I will assume that you're not.
I'm not playing isro currently because i'm in the US for an exchange year and I'm out in the country (dial up sux ballz). I can only access the internet on the weekend for about 5 hours but still not every weekend. I'm in school atm (Computer Programming ftw :P)

Nah, I m not sarcastic, it's usually uncommon to see people enjoying a ruined game, and your situation explains your current level.

Lol, stop teasing me because of my wiz. It was my second char ever; my first char was a 18 hybrid blader. Now i know a lot about sro, although my highest char (excluding the wiz) was a 36 pure int wiz/bard on tsro. Well, i hope JM finally bans all bots. :)
I have been playing since December 2007 now.

ofc you can, but by botting, it promotes the fact that the majority of ppl's status is destroyed. When there is not bot, it's 1% of kser, after the bot exists, it's 99% of kser. You can't say that botting has no impact on the choice of ksing someone. Unless the botter turn off the ks mode, but I doubt who would do that? By ksing through bot, you destroyed your own personal status without knowing it, but if you ks with your own hand, you know you are destroying it. That made the difference.
There's a huge difference between a bad person know he is a bad person, and a bad person who doesn't know he is bad.

Don't feel bad. My highest level character I've ever created is a lvl 54 blader. I've had a few others in the 0x-1x range and a rogue/bard at lvl 38.

It's not your level that matters so much. It's how you use it that matters. ;-)

Nice to see another legit here on srf, prometheus.
If you never had a "high" char, that somehow proves that you are legit.

<sarcasm>YES! That's exactly why I buy all of my gold in 1-gold increments, to fly under the radar.</sarcasm> (only kidding of course - note the sarcasm tags).

I do have a lvl 84 bard/cleric, but that's only because someone PMed me the info when they quit so I don't really count it as "my" account since I didn't actually make it. :)

I've only used the bard/cleric a few times. I didn't really have time to do much. I basically just ran to the jangan caves and killed some mobs by myself for about 15 minutes or so. I found some kind of a statue that I could attack. It spawned something and I was dead. :P

Apparently the character is a thief. It'd be tempting to go try and rob someone but I never see any trade runs. Not that I've spent much time at all on the server

The 90% (I believe?) moving speed increase is pretty nice though!

Instead of using an automated system that can easily be fooled, they should let the users choose who gets the quiz. I wrote something up and sent it to joymax via bug report. I hope they read it.
Quote:
This is a solution that will take the work of banning bots out of your hands and place it within the player community.

Suppose you have two players, A and B.
Player A thinks Player B is botting.
Make it so that player A can click on player B and force player B take a quiz.
Do not put a restriction on how often you can use this feature, but put a limit on how often the feature can be used on you.
If Player B passes the quiz, Player A is banned for one day and one strike is added to Player A's record. 3 strikes gives a permanent ban. This punishes people for abusing the feature.
If Player B fails the quiz, Player B is banned for one day and one strike is added to Player B's record. 3 strikes gives a permanent ban.

Additional considerations.
To avoid afk players from being banned, only players that have used an attack recently(10 seconds) can be forced to take a quiz.

To avoid players dying from monsters while they are taking the quiz, make it so that players take no damage from monsters attacking them during the quiz.

The questions on the quiz should be things humans can answer easily, but bots have difficulty answering.
An example of this would be "Which of these is bigger? A)The moon, B)an elephant, C)an apple" or "Which of the following pictures is a cat?".

The idea is not bad but i would change some points:
The player who asks the other player shouldn't be banned for one day but 12 hours and only half a strike should be added because it may happen that the bot users is watching his bot and answers the question...
Additionally they would have to work out some real hard questions because bots are able to recognize a whole lot of stuff.. :(

Or just forget all of the "users asking other users questions" ideas and just have the server-sided automated bot detection scripts (detect characters run-stop-run-stopping on certain checkpoints) and active GMs on each server to catch anything that the scripts miss.

They'll catch a LOT of bots that way I'm sure. A lot of other bots will get scared when their capped/full sun/FF friends are banned and may stop botting themselves... maybe. At least the bot population will be reduced.
