Heya,

I was wandering whilst talking to some of my friends if Joymax sell redistributions of silkroad. One of my friends recently won the lottery (You dont know how jelous i am). He got talking about owning his own version, although i think the price would be much higher than he is anticipating.

He is seriously interested in investing into buying/owning his own version of silkroad, but a offical not a private one.

Does anyone have any information on this? I saw recently Joymax sold a version to russia? i cant remember i read the post in GD recently.

If not, does anyone know what it would take to get ahold of Private server files ect.. and the work load needed in order to get one up and running effectively? To the standard of the eSCRO sjSRO ect. ect..

This is a serious post, and i am not looking for negative feedback, i need a push in the right direction.

Thanks for reading,

TheSlink

Well running a SRO verision takes more then just buying it.

JM would probably only sell the code, server files, etc. and charge royalty fees.

EDIT - congratz to your friend!

Nao, I'ma look at a picture and go to bed.

How much your friend won if I may ask?
If you ask me, there are much better things to invest money into, than Silkroad.

Running SRO? Well first you gotta buy a server which will break your bank for all the traffic and bandwidth SRO will use, then you're broke. Job well done.

The information you are looking for is related to "franchise opportunities".

For this type of information, you need to contact Joymax through their "Investment Opportunities and Finance" division, which you can do so here.

Before your friend does so though, they should at least understand how these things works. Simply having money to finance an endeavor is usually "not enough" when it comes to these things. If your friend has no previous experience in running a game, then I don't think Joymax will just license out their products to anyone. These issues are really sensitive in the business world and you have to remember you are dealing with a very large international company.

At a minimal, your friend should already have a plan for all the aspects of running a large mmo like Silkroad on hand. These include at minimal:
- Data center for hosting
- PR team for maintaining a positive image of Joymax's products you want to license
- Game administration team (technical support, GMs, forum admins, etc...)

For more information on this kind of stuff, just have them do Google search for information on buying a franchise. You should see a lot of the strings attached and will need to keep these things in mind before starting an inquiry. All businesses are different though, but remember that you are dealing on a business level now and unless you actually work in that area, there's always a lot more to it than might initially appear.

Congrats to your friend though! :)

Just contact sjSRO or mySRO and see if they wanna sell their server files, but wait until they have updated to 100cap, dont bother contact Ocean to see if he can sell the server files cuz he wont.

Congratz for your friend btw. :)

His way of enjoying life might possibly be playing videogames, or he wouldn't be thinking about this. Not everybody has to think OMG MONEY = CAR, COOL. Also, buying a server for SRO might possibly end up with profit, you never know.

Like Drew said, this isn't as simple as you may think. Think it through, and if it's really what you want to spend your money on, take all the necessary steps and eventually get your own server I suppose.

The apartment idea is good, but you would need more than 2m to sustain it. And thats only buying an already built apartment.

How about signing an agreement with Joymax to remove the Goldbots issue for the 1 Million instead of having to handle your own Silkroad version and if Joymax does not obey the terms of the agreement, then he can sue them and keep the other 1 Million to himself. :)

Joymax isn't stupid enough to do that, sorry. They easily rake in more than 1m per annum. <-And thats and understatement.

2million isn't enough? 2million isn't enough for 5 servers and the rights to own a piece of SRO? Joymax doesn't have anyone really managing their game. So why isn't 2million enough money?

I think its not a bad investment since the person knows exactly what SRO lacks. The amount of money they could gain from this would be huge since their version would be better managed.

If your friend is serious, the only way you can know the price and if you can is to contact Joymax.

But dont think it will be easy. He will need to employ GM's and other staff, rent/buy an off-site server that is capable of running many realms. (realms = servers like Alps, Xian ect on one main server)

It wont be cheap or easy, and i can think of hundreds more things to spend 2M quid on.

This was exactly what i was after, truely brilliant post. Unlike some in here which are irrelavant.. and frankly.. His money.. his investment.. also why do you guys not see the bonus from this? If we can create a version which is fun, turk free (Sorry) and friendly.. im sure we could attract a large market.. as GM's would care, the updates would be worthwhile. This combimned would be a interesting combination. Think about it, its a "investment" which means he would reclaim his money.. its not like buying a car that de-value's.. and as to the family thing. He payed of his parents, his, aunties, sisters and brothers morgage.. and treated his parents to a holiday home in Spain and a round the world cruise. The 2m he has is AFTER tax and family.

Anyway, Joymax website cant function correctly.. we cant email them them threw the customer services.. we tried 4 valid numbers and still its rejecting we may have to call.

The servers will cost around £20,000 each for a top-end setup. Then you need to think about data centre costs, maintence costs, hardware upgrade costs. Then on top of that, you have the franchise to pay for and maintain, no doubt having to pay royalties to Joymax ect.

Its not the actual servers that cost money, its maintaining and running them that does.

I dont know if anyone else remembers this, but there was a video of this german dude talking to a Silkroad GM via the telephone. He asked her many questions, one of them being if he could buy the "Server Files" and the GM said No. But I dont really think she knew what he meant because of her awful english and GM's dont have shit to do with stuff like that anyways. So I doubt that makes a difference but oh well.

Spending over $10,000 (I say 10,000 cause some of you spend like 3000) for a game is just awfully ridiculous. If you had like 50 Million+, sure whatever, but your friend only has 2 Million. Out of all the other things he could do, he rather spend it on a dying game. Like what is he? Fucking stupid? Peace.

I'd like to think what his shamed family thinks of this, if he ever goes through with it.

Realistically speaking,

If you friend does go through with this, you say you will provide better support right? Which in turn means no bots or gold bots, right? Without bots and gold bots, where will your revenue come from? Without bots and gold bots, there will be no reason to buy premium login shit. Don't forget that it's Joymax's game; so they'll have a hefty share of your profit...if you even make break-even.

I would just support esro and give them a few thousand dollars. I'd wait till it comes out then give them a small boost to help them out.

The context I put it in was comparing it to the amount of money he would need to buy and sustain the "Silkroad Redistribution".

So please, elaborate.

If you want best for your friend, tell him use the money on other mode of investment.
Like land/properties.
If hes your so so friend. Steal his ticket.
