Downhang is based on Real world, but actually SRo is combination of different cultures, Like what does has Medusa to do with Silkroad, isn't it from Greek Mythology?
I've been Wondering that is Roc based on Real History?

You think there might be earth ghosts inside those caves? Could that be why that section of the cave is restricted to the public?

I've been Wondering that is Roc based on Real History? The Roc is based on a Mid East legend. See Marco Polo

Roc began life as a normal television sitcom, chronicling the ups and downs of Baltimore garbage collector Roc Emerson (Charles S. Dutton), a tightwad who constantly brought home "perks", i.e. items thrown away by residents on his route; his wife Eleanor (Ella Joyce), a registered nurse; his father Andrew (Carl Gordon), a retired Pullman porter; and his womanizing younger brother Joey (Rocky Carroll), a ne'er-do-well musician who had recently returned to the neighborhood. A much-played scene during the series' promotion featured Roc greeting his returning brother with a casual glance and a tired "Hey, Joey." When Eleanor suggests that he should have more to say, Roc agrees, and follows up with "Hey, Joey, where's my money?" HEY JOEY WHERS MY MONY
