Well i just installed it on a virtual machine. Doesnt perform half bad considering its Beta1, Unless they do some work on the interface its probably going to be one of the ugliest windows yet, but it seems performance is improved. It was using 405mb memory apposed to the 700-800mb idling for vista. For similar compairison, I only have a few basic programs on right now on this XP machine. Antivirus, msn, xfire and firefox. and i have using 560mb memory. Could this actually mean microshit isnt fking up their windows again? We will see :)

Everyone said the same things about XP that they said about Vista, it took a couple years for people to stop QQing.

Try turning Aero on :)

To all those Vista whiners...well we've already had this discussion a thousand times.

But, I was in the same boat I hated vista. Had I even tried it? No. When I actually got it, I really didn't see the fuss about it.

It's much more stable. Sure it uses a bit more memory idling, but I'd rather have 10% more of my 3gigs of ram than have an unstable environment.

But okay.

Don't really care about the GUI since there are always multiple themes available. RAM isn't even an issue for me anymore, just stability & features. Hopefully this will be a good OS.

I like vista.

I dont understand why people complain so much about it.. well apart from the expected things. Maybe we shoulda stayed at Windows 95.

their has never been a decent windows, xp is only good now because they have patched it so many times over the years and it was a more welcome break from the fail of ME, it was never 'good' imo then again im not going to vista so i should shut up and be quite and see whats windows 7 is like first

I love vista I have had it for about 6 months and never had a crash related to vista but when I had xp it would crash every few weeks :banghead: I think these are the reasons vista failed in order of importance

1. apple ran a good advertising campaign

2. people would try to run vista on computers which weren't fast enough for it and then blame it
on vista

3. no vista exclusive programs so unless you had 32 bit xp there was no reason to upgrade other than looks

4. Vista does use more RAM than xp

yeah i know for a fact places really forced vista, one of my friends got his laptop with vista even tho he asked not to have it, the main reason, he only had 512mb of ram >_>

anyway windows 7 is going to be a bigger failure than vista unless Microsoft makes it as resourceful as linux since the people who already have vista won't upgrade to windows 7 yet and the people with xp are going to be brainwashed by apple again

Windows 7 is all because Vista has bad rep. I personally have vista x64 with 4gb ram and haven't had a probable with it. Vista is taking 51% of the ram while XP only took 25% of 3.25gb(4gb on x86). If you have the hardware it runs fine.
Most non gaming people will test vista on a $5,000 dollar computer(those people in the commercials) then buy it and try to run it off their laptop from 9 years ago.
I personally have seen vista run fine with a Pentium 4 Hyperthreaded, 2gb 667mhz ram, 8600gts. It loaded up quickly and played minor games decently. They should have the minimum requirements a little higher then "just being able to run it" so people don't freak out on how vista is sluggish and doesn't work on their pc.

Cant be worse than ME. Basically 7 is like a tweaked and optimized Vista anyway. Some general changes and some core ones.

They better nuke MS Paint this time.

The taskbar now looks a lot like Mac's Dock.

I think I'll download the beta also and try it out. And the GUI... XP looks way better (maybe it's just me).

Not worth the hassle. You'll find that a lot of programs wont work on 2000

I won't deny that there is an overwhelming amount of false negative feedback on Vista but fact of the matter is that Microsoft had initially released Vista too early and it wasn't until maybe the last quarter of 2008 when Vista has been more stable for more people. Since they had already missed their original deadline for release, they instead went ahead and released it early and provided updates later on. This caused many issues with software hardware companies that did not have finalized versions of their software/drivers for Vista which ultimately resulted in negative feedback.

Things have been more stable during the Windows 7 beta-testing and I did notice a very high improvement in resource management in Windows 7. While there still are a few bugs for MS to fix, things are looking good right now. It is prone to crashing right now since its still in beta stages but it is overall a much better experience than with Vista.

The new taskbar will have the option to be collapsible to provide more space for open applications. One of the things that bug me most about Vista are the various inconsistencies found throughout the UI and also inconsistency in typeface use. Windows 7 will feature the 'Ribbon UI' throughout its core applications which I find to be a step forward in making the OS look more consistent and not 'thrown together'.

Windows 7 w/ Aero
Spoiler!

Paint w/ Ribbon UI
Spoiler!

Sadly, the UAC is still present but hopefully it won't be when its released this year. Even though it can be disabled, it has already been established by the public and by Microsft that the UAC is only there to annoy you.

This post turned into a vista hate. I myself have e4500 2.2ghz processor and 2gb memory. I can run most games fine, HOWEVER, when i "downgraded" back to windows xp I gained over 10 FPS in silkroad alone. I enjoyed my use of vista but there are obviously some major flaws in its performance, overall i liked using it, but i would prefer xp just to the performance. I hope to upgrade to windows 7 when it is released because its all about performance and stability :)
