Couldn't sleep so instead of watching T.V decided to sit down and do a couple of sigs for the practice. Approximate time for both of them combined, about 4-5 hours.

Posted the originals for those who wanted to use them in their own sigs. Plus that Kyu .gif is just kick ass. =}

Anyway off to get the hour of sleep I have before I need to get ready for class.

very, very good job on the first one. i really love how
you blended that not-cutout render into there. seems like
a lot of work to get everything flowing. idk what else to
say, looks like a finished tag. perhaps upping the contrast
of it might be interesting since now most light is just in
the palm of his hand ;]

second one, not so fond of. might just be me. i mean, it's
a nice, daring concept, but i just think the colored stuff
that creates the depth looks too "real" compared to your
focal, and the colored stuff is so in-your-face, that the
render becomes a bit hard to see. about the colored stuff,
it's mostly the part front left that's bothering me. too
realistic if u know what i mean, like it's tiles on a wall.

I agree, the colors are kind of flat in the first one. Maybe pump up the lighting a bit before you use the gradients (if that's what you did). The depth is good, but since the colors are flat, it's detracting from it.

Sorry but the 2nd one doesn't go with your focal at all. It's too bright and choppy, and your render is more ethereal. Also, I have to invoke Rizla on this one, text should go over or away from borders, but never touching.

Extremely nice first one 9/10
The colors in the second one take away from the focal for the second one 6/10

lol my bad it said dante when I downloaded the stock so I just assumed. :oops:

Yeah the first is mostly just blending C4ds and different BG's. Basically just working on my blending and lighting. I original had a different out look for the first one where there were a bit more vibrant colour but after speaking with a few people decided to tone them down giving the whole sig a more "cold" "dead" realism feel. Which I personally enjoyed since most my tags a full of loud colours. Case and point sig two.

Now speaking of the second tag originaly it was supposed to be abstract the sprite was added last minute because right before I was about to save it I took a second look and the whole thing gave off this " inside a video game look" you know cartoons and movies do it? I thought it would be a original idea but I guess it just has to do with where you post. AC doesn't get to many tags of this sort so I'm assuming you're not used to them so that's why it looks "odd" I guess would be the right word to use. I've been getting a lot of mixed reactions on it most people enjoy the CMYK colour scheme. As did I, felt it gave the whole sig a cool surreal feel.

Like cin already mentioned it was just a daring attempt to break out of the norm. I'll keep playing with the style and eventually come to a grey area with the sprite and colours and post back to you guys. :love:

Oh and Lava don't fall into rules like those. Although I agree to an extent if all you're doing is throwing your text in the corner using any generic font. Yes, that's a no no but if there is some artistic insight to it and it goes well with your overall sig, why not. If we just follow the same rules for every sig. They eventualy all start looking the same, no? :P Also where are the choppy lines I must have missed a spot because I did go back and blend in the choppy areas.

@Rogue
I used a couple different things to produce the BG. I'm not on my laptop right now so I'll Pm you the full stocks later. but I'll post the direct layers here for now. EDIT: you got lucky I didn't trim any of the layers so they're all full size. :)

Spoiler!

And the left side was mainly produced by recoloring this gundam and flipping/erasing areas and a c4d..

Spoiler!

..I'm sure you've already guessed where I rendered the feathers from. :)

Oh and before I forget thank you everyone for commenting. :love:

I only say that about the text because it isn't adding anything to the sig for me. Breaking "rules" is great, as long as it serves a purpose and looks amazing. Maybe it's just that I don't like the style, but for me the whole sig lacks cohesion and the text irks me. Srry :( And I didn't mean choppy lines as in you missed something, I meant choppy as in my eyes find no rest. My descriptions are never good because I have no idea how to talk about art or design or whatever. I'm working on it :)

Lol, why are you so cute? :P :love:

Don't apologize. That's art some love it some don't it would be crazy to assume you can please everyones taste in a single piece. As for your comments if it's any consolation you're one of the few people who's comments I look forward to. Since they are usually not only filled with praise but constructive criticism too.

Now I'm just waiting for >rek and Bs and I'm good. :P

Just.. Why does he have a feather instead of his hand in the first one? A sword would be much cooler. :)

Well I don't know about you but it would look pretty weird just having a random sword floating in the foreground of the sig. But I commend you for what you're trying to do. I'm glad my last comment struck you in such a way. :)
