Civilization is the best game EVER! I have the whole series. I'll be getting the newest one once I buy a PS3. You can go Online in 4 vanilla - bts and make it seem less like a turn based rts depending on you settings.

Civ? Oh yea the best series! Ever since the first game came out I thought Sid Meier was a god...lol...I even read and re-read that game's manual at least 20 times... Wow, now I miss those times when one reason for buying a game was for those oh so informative and useful (and don't forget hefty) manuals that come with them...

I started with Alpha Centauri when I was Young (really young). Eventually I lost interest in it (4th/5th grade), later when I was in 7th/8th grade I saw Civ III at a fathers day sale. I thought, "what the hell, my dad might like this." I bought it gave it to him and he never even opened it. One day, during the summer I came home from the park and was bored. I cracked open that game and enjoyed hours of "Just-One-More-Turn" Syndrome. The rest is History. \o/

I absolutely love all of the civ games and i've put thousands of hours into each one. I was excited when I found out about revolutions, especially after just buying an xbox. But I started looking into it, supposedly it was like a watered down version of the normal series, and didn't quite live up to the name.
So I decided to download the demo through xbox live before buying it, and it doesn't feel right. The game mechanics are the same, but on a controller it feels clunky, and the reason I love the game (depth, micromanagement, etc.) wasn't translated well into console.
It might be because it's only the demo, but i'm going to wait out until the prices drop.

Those who still play Civ 4 Beyond the Sword, check out CivFanatics Civ4 - Creation & Customization. The civ 4 modders community has made great mods that make your Civ 4 experience even better. Once you try out some mods, you will never want to play again vanilla version of Civ 4.

I just got Civ4 some days ago...
TBH at the beginning it was kinda good....but now it really is boring.
I mean all you do is build what ever is recommended to build in the cities..and automate workers.
When you get into war..its either very hard or very easy.
Ionno maybe i should try the expansions..maybe they are a bit less boring...but the one i already have has like too many details and you dont really get to use/have fun with any of them...i mean i barely open the city screen (double click on city thing)
Bah...i know this isnt the thing to say in a Civilization post but i liked RomeTotalWar alot more than this game.
If you got any advice about how to make it less boring i'd appreciate it though.

Play on a higher difficulty. Stop building what they recommend you to. Stop automating workers, start starting wars for resources. The harder the war, the better. What difficulty are you playing on? Try Noble then work your way from there to Deity.

hootsh wrote: Stop automating workers: bad for me..i'll just do what they can do automated. Stop building whats recommended: bad for me..cause simply whats recommended is usually the best for me...i thing. Higher difficulties: me gets owned I'm gonna try it anyways and see how it goes. Try this link. It contains practically all the strategies needed to improve your game. It really helped me out a lot. Be sure to check out how to run cottage economy and specialist economy. Once you read it, you will understand why putting workers on automation is not efficient.Running workers automated and building everything recommended by comp might work on Settler to Warlord difficulty, but the strategy definitely doesn't work on Noble or higher levels. You have to start micromanaging your empire from Noble level and higher. The articles are kinda long, but you will be fine as long as you are able to learn their core concepts.

Also pay attention to what the other civilizations are doing. Not only that but keep track of your resources and of what technology you need or don't need. Make sure you know what is necessary for the time of victory your going and for and what isn't. I always go for domination.

I hate the game. I played the demo on my ps3, and I hated it. Just because I had no idea what I was doing, even with the tutorial.

Okay thanks for the help guys.
But just one last question..is there like any cheat that allows me to view the whole map? Cause to scout the whole map it would take me dozens of scouts. Map Editor, it allows you to edit the map in-game; Add and remove units/building/upgrades/resources/land/cities. Don't make it a common practice unless you plan on modding personal maps for multi-player. Civ Fanatics is the best Civ fan site btw. You don't need all of the map though, and you're still in the early stages of the game. Eventually you'll have all the map by exploration, research, or diplomacy.
