I reiterate my support for a chatroom, it'd be interesting.

Sounds like people are still interested. (Mods/admins, are you watching?) Ok. As I see it, the problem is twofold: 1. Limited support. Certain people want the chatroom back, but we haven't seen more than 4-8 people posting in here. Limited support = limited incentive for a mod/admin to do it again. 2. Who's going to be responsible for its upkeep? Who gets to be a mod in the room to prevent spamming and bots and bad behavior? What are the guidelines for said "bad" behavior? Honestly, it's easier to set up a temporary IRC channel, or get on Xfire voice chat and invite all your friends That being said, could we please get an answer on the viability of the java chatroom and perhaps an explanation to those (like me) who apparently weren't around to see it?

IRC has bots, which protect channels against abuse. On Quakenet, where i used to be, there's a large scripting community that custom builds bots to prevent spamming, further abuse, bad words etc.
I used to build those, it's not that hard and possibility's are endless. Quakenet also supplies free channel admin bots like L, Q, S, etc.
Limited support is the cause of nobody visiting Site Discussion.

Limited support is the cause of nobody visiting Site Discussion. easiest for SRF users would be to bring back the chat room (simple click and u're in). IRC would be cool but our last tries failed

Limited support is the cause of nobody visiting Site Discussion. Yeah, I know all that, but bots never completely filter all the crap or the takeover attempts (that is, if we did not establish a permanent chatroom). It's not like it's tough to jump into an #srf chatroom and post the channel/provider with a link to a Java IRC chat client. Not like I can get IRC past my firewall anyway. Are you saying limited support is the reason nobody visits Site Discussion?

Are you saying limited support is the reason nobody visits Site Discussion? Have been on IRC for 2.5 years straight, scripting bots, it damned easy to stop takeover attempts, and filter all the crap. Most hosts are known anyway, And read that sentence about limited support backwards, that's how i meant it ;p Nobody is showing support for this irc thing, cause no1 is ever visiting here.

Havent tested security since the last major Q/C update on QN But iRC is a good choice at least. And QuakeNet has a support that really tries to (and in 99% does) give back channels on a succeeded COT. So if you are planing to use iRC again, make it on QN. And if the OTs used their own IP adress w/o any proxies or TORs (and in best way have a static ip) they also will get G/K lines.

I was part of 4scripting, we we're pretty big once, had a lot of bots, but about 5-7 that we're scripted right.
Several people/groups tried to takeover 3 of our channels, 1 succeded, after which we became better, and no takeovers were succefull after that.

lol, it's empty most of the times. how about a news announcement to get more members in there. I think about 1% of the forums visitors read the SD...
