Well I'm deciding between Warlock/cleric and Wizard/Cleric for my first character as I posted before. What is bugging me is I hardly see ANY warlock mains and the majority of people I have asked on my server tell me to choose wizard hands down, no questions asked. They tell me to not bother with the warlock tree. Are warlock mains shunned upon or something? Is it an unpopular build? I even hear they have a hard time getting into parties. Is it because it doesn't produce the BIG damage that people like to see?

Oh my god, go wizard because everyone says so
But in all seriousness, it's far easier to get into a party as a wizard than a warlock, mostly because no one really understands how warlocks fit into euro parties since there's not very many out there. Inexperience leads to simple train of thought. "Wizard = damage. Damage = good. Wiz = good." Most party leaders will unthinkingly type "PARTY 'X' LVL MOB- NEED WIZARDS ONLY" and unfortunately, they simply block out all requests besides wizards. I've seen bards, warlocks, and especially rogues turned down even if there were 4+ wizards in the party already.

Become a wizard if you want to party level really fast, considering that not many parties are welcoming to locks. More often than not, you will be told to use your subclass instead. Others can tell you reasons why to go warlock but I feel like arguing the negative. I love warlock, but get excluded from parties a lot except when playing cleric. (Cleric is an easy class to play in parties, but still... Clericking for 90 levels?)

1. Yes, shunned by party leaders who have probably never seen one in their life. :banghead:
2. Not too common, but still popular for a pvp build. I personally don't see capped warlock mains at all while pvping.
3. Yes. However if you play with knowledgeable people, then they will love to have you in a party.
4. I somehow think that in general partying opinion, people see warlocks as half-assed wizards. It's not that way in pvp though.

I sound so bitter, haha... It was a good vent.

Thanks guys. Well I'm not going to tag along on the wizard bandwagon :P. However, keeping 10D in mind, I can't decide on a ratio to hybridize with. I've heard that 10D will be an issue for warlocks because spells will cost more mp and they won't be able to keep up. I also went pure intellect up until about lvl 26 because I thought I wanted to be wizard. I don't know if that is too significant but I thought I might mention it.

warlocks are very usefully in a party, alot of servers most people are too retarded to understnad they can almost double the party damage, and they increase the berserk rate of the whole party so thats even more damage, 1 warlock and 3 wizards is greater damage then 4 wizards, but people are stupid, how ever you said warlock cleric which still leaves you cleric which every party needs and wants (for some reason i guess people understand the need not to die in a party)

edit

ok semi exaggerated, at lvl 68 i'd say warlock debuffs increased my damage on niya generals lvl 80 mobs by about 30% plus their own damage over times, then all the berserk they gave, throw in 2 bards to magic dance thats another 30% increase and of course the extra int from cleric

debuffs lower levels may not seam to help much but after about level 40 you can start to notice the damage increase, on my warrior warlock i debuff something and dull and double stab it and hit just about as much as a chinese nuker's lightning nuke my level with warrior, the debuffs really help alot

I can't really call it grinding, more like tanking for gold bots.

That makes sense...since the advantages of being a warlock is that you can attack multiple mobs at the same time...that'd be hard to program....

Warlocks can cast two curses on two mobs (24 hits) and then the vampire kiss the two, etc...killing both at the same time.

I don't think you can program that easily. =P

****

So, I'm making a warlock/cleric. Not anywhere close to cap (only 32) and it's monstrously fun...even solo-ing. ^^

As for mp costs...not sure about cap, but at least at this level...in garms...there's no problem =D

I appreciate all your comments guys. Disconn3cted I think you were right on the money with that. I forgot to mention that some people had that exact response when I asked them why they never considered warlock. Oh well, I like being unique.
