actually going to best buy isnt such a bad idea, go to geek squad and ask them to see what physical problems there are with the computer and they will find out for you for free. just to make sure u wouldnt be getting a new cd drive for a almost broken laptop

Is it still under warranty from Dell? or did you get it secondhand. If it's under warranty they will ship you a new CD-Drive. You can always try and re-seat the CD drive, it's one of the easier parts of a laptop to work with. If you flip it upside down, you should see a screw at the edge of the laptop by the CD tray, this is the locking screw. Unscrew that and then use the pull tab to pull the CD drive out. It's not necessary to pull it all the way out, then just push it back in, and rescrew the lock screw in. Here's Dell's page for doing it. The fall might have just loosened it. I've had that happen before. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/s ... tm#1084976
