Hi, until a few days ago, my system was the following:

MB: Gigabyte 7VTXE+ (VIA KT266A chipset)
CPU: AMD Athlon XP Thoroughbred 1700+ (o/c @1800Mhz)
RAM: 512 MB DDR 266Mhz (single channel)
VGA: ASUS A9600 GE (radeon 9600 128MB DDR)

I changed the MB and VGA with:

MB: EPOX 8RDA+ (nForce 2 cjipset)
VGA: XFX 6600GT (GeForce 6600GT 128MB DDRIII)
VGA driver used Forceware 91.31 + nvidia stereodriver 91.31

and with the new MB, RAM is running in dual channel

I got a tremendoes boost in 3D Mark (with CPU at default speed 1500Mhz) 1300 3dmarks compared to 411 with old MB and VGA. Most other games seem to benefit from the new hardware too... Except Silkroad.... I get barely 2-3 FPS in town and 10-12 outside, compared to 10-15 fps in town and 25-30 outside before upgrade.

Suspected the stereo driver, but after installing a newer forceware without stereo driver nothing changes, the game runs awful.
I should also mention that I am running the game in 1024x768 High detail, I was running it with the same settings before upgrade.

Hmm, that's interesting. Since the graphics card of one of my older computers died easily, I too bought a 6600GT card for that computer too (it's AGP and running Windows '98; this was the best I could get for it). I ran into exactly the same problems! It's like using software rendering on that thing! I put the card in my Linux machine in stead, used a AIW 9000 card in my windows machine, and recently bought myself a new computer with a 8800 GTX card in it. No more problems. :)

That is really strange. I put the old radeon back in the box for testing and Silkroad ran fine (with a Windows XP install on separate partition). Then the 6600GT again, and Silkroad runs like crap!!!
I can't find any reasonable explanation for that. The 6600GT is far more powerfull than the 9600, and yet... CRAP. Tried different drivers and stuff, no use.

I think I know what the issue is. Get the Coolbits registry tweak for your NVIDIA card (google it). Right click on Desktop, then go to the Settings tab. Click on advanced. Click on the tab for your graphics card. Go to Performance & Quality Settings. Under the selections for Antialiasing Settings and Antisotrophic settings, uncheck Application Controlled, and set it somewhere around 4x. See if that helps.
