I think JM did a lot of research on silkroad, notice the tree growing next to the cave.
The tower in the 1st image is somewhere near ong or bandit place

Nice find. Yeah there's a lot of stuff in the game that's based on real life things, including architecture, weapons, and at least some armor I believe. Probably more things too.

Jangan is a really weird way of spelling the real city (Chang'an). it's spelled Chang'an on official site, and in cSRO (in chinese of course), don't know about tSRO, jSRO, and kSRO, but probably using the correct way. So it's weird for the iSRO to have Jangan as its name. Donwhang is not that off (the real life spelling is DunHuang), but at least it sounds the same.

Someone should take screenies of all of theses places and put the real-life & in-game shots side by side.
Now, go find real pics of Karakorum.

I remember way back in the day I made a thread about things (places, people, monsters etc) in sro, and if they are from mythology, or real life, or just made up.. or what's the meaning of them etc..
Some interesting stuff came up.
Wonder if that thread still exists.
