Well I got stuck in Jangan from a stupid glitch so I had to restart SRO and decided to check in on one of my chinese characters (which I haven't played on for YEARS)

But anyways, i found a little blast from the past that I had completely forgotten about.

Anyone remember.. the PROTECTOR??? :D

Image

Did they remove that from the shops? I quit before they changed stuff so I never realized it until recently >_>

Hmm... wonder if it works? :D
Or maybe I can sell them >:D

EDIT: Just tried using one... doesn't even summon anything. Looks like Joymax completely deleted it :(

HEY AWESOME! I can't trade it, I can't sell it, I can't shop it. Heck, I can't even DROP it. Lovely....

I still have a couple of them on my old Babel acc.

If only you could sell them, I wonder their worth if you could.

Like I said to Fermions, it was probably because low levels didn't know what they were and attacked them.
But also... I don't think they really "worked" against botters with their.. crazy monster.. identification or whatever the heck it is they use since I don't remember seeing a bot actually attack one >_>
Oooor... (CONSPIRACY!)

because people used them on low levels and during pvp. plus im betting all the botters spammed jms bug report about them and they got rid of them.

They took it away when they did bot bans under 80cap. Maybe they thought then they would get rid of all the bots then :banghead:

Bots never attacked those things. Bot software knows better. It was only used to trick new people into getting themselves killed.

Shitty old clientless gold bots did attack them. After Euro was released I was able to kill a few gold bots with them. Most playerbots were coded to ignore them though.

The real problem with the good old days is that they weren't that good.

Are you nuts? They were the best!!! Nothing was better than watching an idiot botter who got lvled to cap get raped by one not knowing what it was. It was also fun watching nubs attack them. I mean unless the newbies were REALLY stupid, they did no harm. Dying once won't hurt you too much. Same as monster scrolls. Botters complain, JM fix. Legits complain, JM goes and takes a dump on the server so ppl can bitch some more.

Well I remember the old days and I can tell you some things about it, for example

There wasnt soo many bots, as I can remember noone botted see why below.
There wasnt guilds in a new server in the first few days.
You could be the first guild master if you worked hard for it.
If you spend time, you could be the highest level on the server, and you had clear spots.
First tg rides was awsome.
First uruci rides was awsome.

Compared with nowdays gameplay, when ppl with 10 dg sosun weapons and with 500k sp considering themselves legit...

those who played in the old times know what being a legit means

Honestly, I think the whole purpose of the protector was not to fight bots, but to protect the one who cast it. After all, it is called a "Protector". The protector "prevents auto hunting." Maybe they just meant it prevents mobs from auto hunting you. If you're out grinding, and have to go AFK, spawn a protector, and monsters will go after it instead of you. Mind you, a harmony therapy circle will protect you as well, but only up to a certain level of monster (preemptive attack prevention).

A lot of people, myself included, used the protectors to kill bots. Was that really the intended purpose?

Monsters never attacked it ever. It was an early and perpetually ineffectual anti bot mechanism. Code wise the bots could distinguish it and avoid it. So they did. The only bots that ever fell for it were the automated click ones. Any bot like most of the current ones which just hook directly into the game exe would never touch them. They were removed at the euro update because with some classes like wiz etc there were a lot more AOEs and chances to abuse them. So since they never worked as intended and were only there for abuse they removed them.

Oh ok I do remember them more now. I couldn't remember if mobs attacked them or not.
