So the servers are full of botters and people using multiclients and what not. Which got me to wondering can Joymax tell if someones using a multiclient? And if so how?

Cause if they can why haven't they stopped the bots/multiclienters?

Well, I've heard some people complain about their level 1 staller getting banned before. So, I think they can detect it.

so they can detect who's using a multiclient as apposed to those people who are using 2 computers they just choose to do nothing about it right?

Hm...not sure. What's worse, I recall reading a thread that stated in Linux, you can run multiple clients without using any third-party software, so I don't know if that is more or less likely to result in a ban for multi-clienting.

And yeah, there are also people who have access to multiple PC's (like me - I have 4, but typically use only 1 or 2).

My only thought is that they CAN determine, but choose not to. Each PC has a MAC address (like an IP address) that is usually unchangeable (yeah, I know you can change it but not all NICS like it). When you put a loader and run multiple clients on your PC, all the traffic comes from one MAC address, not several.

That also assumes that Joymax has a packet inspection firewall in place and the resources to monitor the firewall and pick out IP's and player names suspected of multi-clienting.

You must come to grips with the sheer AMOUNT of people who cheat in Silkroad. If Joymax were to get rid of them all .. you'd have approx 100 lvl 1 accounts and maybe 200 MAX people in total who have never done anything illegal.

Thus, silkroad becoming a game with only 300 players = Joymax dead. That's why 'cheaters' will never be mass banned. Obviously the once-in-a-while scare when they ban 10 silk buying well known bots .. but that will be it.

I believe the way they determine if someone is using MC vs 2 computers has to do with the error report that occurs (what used to be th ????????) report. It tells them what processes you have running, and if you have 2 silkroad clients running theyed know. So 2 clients vs. 2 pcs can easily be detected, unless you never have any errors, but we know jm, and there sho nuff is errors.

only if the client SEND the MAC address, iam unsure about that....
i wonder if the TOS is in effect when run sro on linux cuz like u say there is no protection against multiclients, so basicly it means it is "alowed" ?

No...he's saying when SRO crashes, it spawns that error, and since some people wouldn't know which one to click, the error report can send a list of all processes running back to Joymax.

I am unsure if the client sends it specifically, but any packet from your pc will contain the MAC address. All they need is your machine IP address, which is easily obtainable.

Dude...it's a game....A GAME...

A company that has 10 non-botters who don't buy silk versus 10 botters who buy 200+ silk...which one do you think the company would like more?

And...it's a game...no government would care...or any other organization apart from the players...

That's kinda funny since Joymax, a game company, gets subsidies from - here it comes - the Korean Government.

And here's the funnIER part, SRO was meant to be a WoW killer...and it never will be because if bots were killed the game dies (since most players bot) and if bots aren't eliminated, the game STILL dies...just longer and in a more profitable way...

=O

That error is send via error send packet that is in silkroad files .. and cand easily be deleted.

some loaders or multi clients don't update the way they talk to the server and they are for the most part the ones who get banned.

Sure, and routers can get a new IP every so often too, so I dunno unless they plan on banning an entire subnet. <shrug>

To prevent people from using multiple clients Joymax has added the MAC address protection, if you try to login with a second client, you'd get the C10 error.

After connecting to the GameServer, your login data is sent a second time in the 0x6103 packet, the last 6 bytes of this packet contains your MAC address. Programs like loader sends random values for these 6 bytes so the server thinks its a different pc connecting with the same IP.

A way to detect this is by checking if the MAC address is valid, IE if the address fits the standard types. This really wouldn't be efficient though even if they implement this since generating valid MAC's is pretty easy too.

Hardware or software MAC address - like changed through SMAC?

Er, wait, I just read the rest of this - that's too funny, they don't check for valid MAC addresses...!

if your behind a router firewall they cant tell if its 2 computers or 1 because the router wont let them in. that is if you deleted the error sender if you still have that and you have a multi they can detect it. there is also a way to multi client without 3rd party with windows.
