the wiz has 10d set and you say it doesnt matter as long as he has MAX attack..
incase you forgot 10d = 6 int/str max on single item
12d = 8 str/int
D10 = 11 items (set, acc & weap) = 11x6=66 str/int
D12 = 11x8=88 str/int
22 str = ~125 hp per str = 2750 hp. Assuming he magically gets int str 8 with every single stone get uses, that's not that big of a difference. Especially since he's still a wizzard. Either way he's gonna be a 1-2 hit. the Only time I had trouble pvping a wiz (aka killing him) was when I was up against someone with full nova +9 LA set, Nova +10 cleric rod and shield. Prem +, spamming heals. Course than a warrior walked up and dd his assed and killed him isntantly.
My main point was that as a wiz, focus on maxing attack before gear. You're gonna die pretty quickly anyways, might as well dish out as much dmg as possible and hope you kill them before they kill you.
