So I'm sure some of you hear are in the habit of calling someone who pisses you off a 'noob'. Honestly, how do people think that being called a noob could hurt someone's feelings? Like come on, if you're gonna talk shit to someone, you've gotta do better than 'lol noob', or 'at least I'm not a noob'. But plenty of dumbasses say just that.

Just a little rant. FYI, noob is not a hurtful thing to say. I just laugh and consider them dumb if a person calls me a noob...and that they obviously can't come up with anything better than that.

Noob=new player.

I just lol @ people who over use that word. In the right context it can still have meaning, but damn is it over used. B4 SRO I was playing CSS...noob has hardly any basis anymore. Darn 14 yr olds.

I too actually find that very irratating. If only because its way over used. Noob doesn't actually refer to a "new" player but refers to a player who has the expected knowledge of a new player. If you are going to insult someone over the internet you need to remember. Arguing with someone on the internet(via forums/video games/IRC/etc) is like running in the Special Olympics. Doesn't matter wheather you win or lose you are still a retard.

Think before you type. Use your brain. :banghead:

OOhh and to a previous poster's mother. Thank you, you were great last night. And your son is a N00b!

I think??

That the word noob comes from Mortal Kombat 2....the Hidden character
in that game was called Noob Saibot, and he would always kick your
a** because he used cheap and noobish moves...and when he became
a playable character, you could always win using him due to his moves.
after a while the name transfered to other games and as such players who
used cheap and crappy moves to win a game, were refered to noobs.
like in CS when someone always camps...a noob.

Any way its gotten to the point where theres now 2 words for it
noob meaning the above and newb meaning someone who is new and
inexperienced to something.

:D

,

noob moves that can always own u...sweet, thats not noob then right?

everytime you own someone in pvp using unorthodox methods(unorthodox for the one who got owned) u are called a noob... thats just stupid, why would I want to call a dude who owned me a noob, wheres the logic in that, i'd call him a geek, works better IMO... you call a person who pwned you a noob ---> you are below noob... but if u call him a geek/gook, thats another story :P

there is no need to call ppl noobs.
think about it. we all were noobs when we started out. You may be a higher level than before but that doesn't make you anymore of a noob than you were before if you call ppl "noobs".

Noob and Newbie have totally different meaning.

Noob is an insult.
Newbie is not.

Quote from Wikipedia:
The term newb itself is usually used to refer to a person who is new to the field in question, whereas noob is used as an insult.

Newb and noob may have somewhat different connotations. Newbs are simply newcomers—noob and n00b, on the other hand, generally mean someone who is obnoxious, annoying, or breaks the rules or cannot play effectively; whether they are actual newcomers or not is mostly irrelevant.

So Close

Newb= new player who dont knwo anything about the game, and asks for
help.

Noob = Player who acts like hes really good and is the best at the game
but is really crap.

Here i think this comic from CAD can help:
