Its so that people cant alter there client, like Moogie and (i think) dem and their wolves, and Blue cammo buildings, DJ and his Unique spawns...

Hmm I think they are ready to start doing battle with the bots. As of late they have been really fast at fixing problems. The people who made the bots are smart.. Very smart. SRO knows if they put out an half ass patch they will get picked apart. They may miss the chance to make an iron clad patch that can't get hacked.

That is my hopes.... :shock:

But what ever it is. Its a step in the right direction, even if it fails.

hmm, really hope its a bot prevention system.

but frankly speaking, joymax is really doing a good job nowaday by blocking bots (even though its some useless gold bot, but AT LEAST they did block!)

I had nothing to do with that.

basically i think they've updated part of the client to detect better any changes to the official release of the current version.

probably noticed that thread here with that guy changing meek gunpowders into roc saytan and the likes ^^

ok, so I'm a botter, I'll tell you.

Every update, JoyMax updates their GameGuard, preventing the bot from working. However, if you just paste the old sro_client.exe to your silkroad folder you will run old version, old gameguard = bot working.
Now with this new client, a special signature must be sent ( different every version I guess ) if I use my old sro_client I'd get banned for not having the correct special signature.
So now each time the GameGuard has to be broken. ( Which isn't a problem since softmod completely disables gameguard )
So don't get your hopes up that this is gonna stop botters, sorry guys.

Yeah it will just stop one way that botters get through you are right. But it's a step in the right direction! Couple more steps and most botters (who honestly don't seem to stop and think about why they are getting a program to play a game for them... so how much determination can they possibly have when they don't have the determination to grind?? Anyway games are for fun right? :? ) will have given up.
Just a couple more updates and they'll have those botters rounded up and destroyed :)

if it is anti-bot there will be a new bot out within 1-2 hours tops, meaning it will be totally useless. but thats just my opinion, i don't know anything.

"ok, so I'm a botter, I'll tell you" There is a client altering system that detects if the client has been altered, previous patches were void of this feature. Since this appears to be new, it might take week(s) for the bot makers to go around this, unlike other updates (like you said) only required usage of the old exe. You're also forgetting that Gameguard bypasses require a modified client. Have fun hand grinding.

Alot of botters aren't doing it for the fun of the game or to be high lvled. They do it to sell gold and charecters for real life cash. It's actually good money, lol...

That's one explanation of it. Here's another:

Before the compensation event due to the gold duping, the SRO client was "packed" with a specific executable packer. Once the compensation started, the executable was and still remains "unpacked". That means anyone can open it up and play with it (BUT NOT USE IT)

What the packer does is makes modifiying the client "impossible". It's compressed and encrypted. The only catch is that you can "unpack" it and the mod the client if you have the right talent and tools. Of course there's GG problems you still have to solve afterwards.

That's what I'd think they mean by "client modification prevention". I'd be suprised if they took it further and actually implement a CRC check with magic numbers and all that to prevent modded/no clients.
