Hacked - When an unauthorized programmer gains access into a secure network or Web site, usually by breaking security systems or using a stolen login and password.

I would just like to say that anyone who claims they were "Hacked" deserves a big slap across the face.

In the past there were some issues with the server being insecure, but to my knowledge thats been fixed. I see so many cases of people claiming they were "Hacked". Im quite sick of seeing people claim this, when if you did infact lose your account - it was mostlikely your own fault.

Downloading Bots/"Hacks"/whatever related to sro from a random site will generally land your account in the hands of someone else. (Keyloggers/trojans/etc)

Giving out your login to someone will land your account in someone else's hands. (I know this is obvious, but this is a huge reason why people claim they were hacked...)

Having a password that is easy to crack (Bruteforce) This is the most common way that people are currently using to "Hack" your accounts. Using a program/script designed to use all possible passwords, just spamming the server with attempts to get in. (obviously this can take quite some time, and if your password is secure enough will never happen)

So be sure you have numbers, letters, Capslock, in your password, if your password was just numbers, or just letters... its much easier to get in to.

if SRO recognised capitol letters that might work, since it doesn,t that isn't effective.

this topic comes up alot, either way it sucks to lose your stuff. No need to insult them as well. Some people are innocent, just have lapses in intelligence and get a keylogger.

By "never happen" do you really mean "Unlikely to happen" in 1 to 5 mins?

A bruteforce attack may take a long time but it will normally succeed. I audit passwords on our network here regularly. After the dictionary assault is finished I run the bruteforce audit. I can noramlly pop passwords in 72-96 hours with that. And yes these are passwords that have !@#$%^&*()_+|\=-0987654321`~][{}'";:>?<,./ in them.

When it comes to network password security never say never. Make your password difficult to crack(by using none words with symbols), don't share your account with anyone or anything, and you "should" be safer from the average shmoe.

Yea I agree with Myang. I am still in school for cyber forensics, but we are already using bruteforce password crackers to get into "suspect" machines. We can get into a computer that has numbers, letters, symbols, randomness, and anything else you can possibly think of in a matter of hours or days.

I look at it like this. Just as a lock is nothing more then a way to keep honest people honest, a password can do nothing more then that. It keeps honest people honest. ^_^

you guys aren't taking into account how slow the sro server is in responce to the logins

does losing your account grant you the right to make a new one and constantly spam bullshit that you want your account back? if anything you would have to contact the sro team directly and state your case...

They try to download and run some bot program and end up losing their accounts (or however it might happen), they = 'hacked'

Many a man before you has made attempts at educating the gaming masses. It is as they say 'pointless', or was it 'hopeless'? Either way you're just wasting your time and raising your blood pressure over somthing you can do little to nothing about, so you may as well just call the waaaambulance!
