It's a good discussion.
Though in the end guys, fact remains... It's not hard to write software that can make sure bots don't exist...

I think the port sniffer is going a bit too far, hehe. Not saying, but I'm just saying...people wouldn't want you looking around, even if they have absolutely nothing to hide. That has to be against the law as well. The police couldn't just do a 'friendly walkthrough' of your home, for no reason at all... I'm with you guys on this one: JM maintains their own software, so why can't they just write it in their code? Problem solved! Let's see if JM really decides to give this game a fair shake and implements a lot of those 'no more botters' initiatives they have been touting the past 3 or 4 years. Mind you, they will in effect cut off their head to spite their neck if they do so. They don't realize there is no happy medium in letting player bots roam, and only banning goldbots. Suffice to say that their bottom line gained from the former far outweighs the latter, hence their dilemma. Rules exist for a reason - if you have too many exceptions to those rules, there's no point in having the rule. Based on their current upholding of the rules they imposed, their ToS is a mere suggestion for fair play. Where are the consequences? Super easy way of getting rid of bots? Re-code the game. Sell all the things for which people use these programs (directly or indirectly) at the item mall, and for less money (JM shouldn't care, since this is income they are not getting now - or is it [insert conspiracy theory here]?) Sell it all - SOX, Gold, XP, SP, etc. Turn it into a complete buy here, pay here. That's where it's headed anyway. "...I'll sell my inventions so that 'everyone' can have powers. Everyone can be super! And when everyone's super - no one will be." <- Syndrome, The Incredibles

the very suggestion of this is outlandish. i remember back in the day there was a user and mod interacting concerning the the ip address of another user for stalker related issues like this. that ended ugly. and so shall this if it goes unchecked.

while the idea of Joymax doing this sounds good, Prometheus has touched on most of the points...good luck with seeing OUTBOUND connections from a PC to a bot server.
This is not cool on so many levels.

Port scan would identify if I'm running a bot server or not. It won't tell you if I am connecting to someone else's bot server or not.

I understand constructive criticism, but being rude about your view pisses people off, how about you keep the asshole remarks to yourself and contribute usefully. I suggested this port sniffer, and I just suggested it, I nor anyone else in the matter has used the technique with my idea. This was just a suggestion to help find people who are botting. This isn't the end of the world SRF, if you wanna see the end of the world go to runescape -_-

Your Farking forum name is Cell, surely you should be the one to state the opposite...
