Does anyone have an idea about the shelf life of SRO. I've read that most games like these has a 5 year shelf life (depending). Is it really worth it for anyone to start new chars if the game is going to die soon? And by die I mean dead..as in all the servers are gone...shut down...over..Joymax pull the plug and release a sappy thank you statement.

ya im pretty sure joymax is here to stay, as well as silkroadQuote: JOYMAX Co., a Seoul-based online game developer and publisher, hopes to tap markets in countries where the online game industry is underdeveloped, the CEO of the company said yesterday.
The company is best known for Silkroad Online, or MMORPG, a multiplayer online role-playing game. International game players from 180 countries spend real money to purchase items to customize game characters or accelerate the process of the game.
More than 95 percent of the company's 32.9 billion won ($26.5 million) revenue in 2008 came from overseas sales, but the CEO said he is aiming higher. "The company's net profit is expected to hit 22 billion won this year and its price-to-earnings ratio is very low, at 9.1, compared to the local online game developers' average PE of 15," said Kim Seok-min, an analyst with Dongbu Securities.
"Such factors are expected to give extra momentum to the company's stock prices," he said.
Stock price of JOYMAX rose 4.17 percent to close at 59,900 won on Tuesday.

Noticed something interesting (yet totally unsurprising) on Google trends about the popularity of silkroad online. Looks like the game reached its peak in mid 2007 and has been steadily declining ever since. I decided to use the graph to make a prediction about when SRO will officially die, assuming a rough linear regression model. It turns out to be around mid 2011. Note: The above was posted by someone else on the forums, not me. I just copy + pasted

the game isn't even finished yet, i don't think it will die at 2011 rather it could rise if *ahem failmax finish the game by that time.
During those days we'll be hearing about expansions and not updates.

It just doesn't seem that joymax had (or will have) a proper game management plan. And if being greedy or cost restraints were the reasons why they were force to poorly manage SRO then I don't see them trying to offer better service now. Especially when their peak popularity and highest earning periods are now behind them (2006-2007).
If they continue refusing to pump money into SRO (rather than pathetic updates) then that trend is pointing towards a "end of shelf life" period. Surely they must see this and are aware of it. Hence why I asked about the shelf life of SRO. The CEO will not publicly mention this and ya sure Joymax will release SRO in other countries but it seems ISRO has a known shelf life. I feel joymax has already projected a point in the near future where they will pull the plug on ISRO.

Joymax is focused on newer games at the moment and isn't concerned with what the player base of SRO wants. They have never asked the community what they think, offered opportunities to give input, or signified any effort to offer dynamic, new content for iSRO.
iSRO is simply a money bank that is a platform for the launch of newer, graphically updated games. Eventually, once Joymax secures another, more popular game, they will shut iSRO down first. Gradually, all other versions will also be shut down.
Finally, there will be no compensation provided for those who played any version of SRO. You will be offered a firm pat on the back, and a "sappy" thank you letter via the silkroadonline.net domain.
