You seem to be missing the point, 200 bucks an hour is premium. You tip service workers couse they take care of you and they dont get paid much.

A lot of restaurants pay their employees off-the-books so it's below minimum wage in a lot of cases or close to minimum. I'm talking about Chinese take-out places or Thai food spots -- those usually pay below minimum. Places like T.G.I.Fridays and Dallas BBQ pays above minimum wage but close to it so they still depend a lot on tips to make a good living.

By the way, I think I got my tipping figured out. $100 per session and a little extra gift at the end. It's fitting:

better post the result, 300$ a session, i definetly wanna see the piece

Last night Laura, Ben and myself went to our usual coffee shop that we go to late at night. We all got coffee, chilled for about 2 hours and at the end we paid for it all. I paid the owner in notes and told him to keep the change, which was like $1 or $2. He said it's fine and tried to hand me the change. I assured him that its ok that he took it and that I was giving him a tip for providing such a good service. But even after being super polite about it he still didn't want to accept it! In the end he eventually did and he was incredibly thankful and kind about it.

It's so strange to think that in one first world country tips are almost considered mandatory whilst in another they are a complete rarity.

Oh and your minimum wages are single digits? That's crazy! The average minimum wage for an adult ($18+) in Australia is $15.96 p/h. The rates are lower for juniors (under 18) and for traineeships/apprenticeship but that's a different category all together. I earn $20 an hour at my current job (which in all honesty is just a generic labour job that I'm doing before/during Uni) and I think that I am incredibly under paid. I doubt I'd get out of bed for $6 p/h.

It is odd. Then again, it might be that the cost of living there is much higher. I had one incident where I went to an Asian restaurant (Thai, I think) somewhere in Queens with my girlfriend, my cousin and his girlfriend. We all pooled in money to pay for the dinner and my cousin, who is terrible at calculating tips, left $6 for a $60 dinner (or somewhere around that ballpark) without telling us. While we were going outside, the waitress ran to him and told him he didn't pay enough so I had to leave another $5.

I go to a "Hot Pot" food spot close by where I live once every few weeks. I always tip them at least 30% per dinner so every time we go there, we always get a good spot and great service even on the busiest nights.

In Quebec, if you go to a fancy restaurant, you always calculate the taxes combined. It gives around 14% of the total cost

What's funny about that though the exchange rate for AUD to USD is almost 1:1

Tip...? D:

If someone charges me for something than I just pay them what they are asking. If they wanted another 10% then they should just charge it in the first place. I truly don't understand the concept of mandatory tipping.

Yep. That's the reason I didn't mind scheduling it with the artist even with that price tag.

I've never tipped my tattoo artist, getting inked is an expensive hobby (for me anyway!).... I pay £65 per hr, can't afford to be tipping as well! Having my sleeve started in just over a week! And half my back is done!
