I'm using the messaging app on windows 8, just because I can split the screen between it and my desktop(had w7 in the ss, was just for a day to do something, now using w8)

It's great, the boot time alone is enough to upgrade, got used to the new interface and it's quite easy, only thing I miss from 7 is the Aero theme, other than that it's all better.

new office? does steam and other games work ok WITHOUT THE DAMN STORE?
also is it recommended to hit 64bit or stay on 32...

I was thinking of updating to Windows 8 for my laptop, and then I saw this.

Spoiler!
that's too biased imo, at 00:55 he's trying to close the program and can't find the x button while all he needs to do is dragging the app to the bottom of the screen and it will close, many things in the video that shows how he doesn't know alot about w8 yet, I agree that some metro apps are not very handy on desktops, but you can always have the desktop alternative versions. well in the end of the video he starts to mention some good stuff about it so he's not full bashing, but he's a bit inexperienced with it.

didn't try the new office yet, and I don't use steam. if your processor supports x64 and you have more than 2GB of ram you better use 64 bit version
I went at this without hearing any of the negative opinions beforehand and I've got to say it's definitely better than before. It's a slick new layout with Windows-8-Style 2D graphics and makes sense with the current potential evolution in the PC software market kicked off by Windows 8.

well... id like to try windows 8 but im scared at all the negative things ive heard about it. then again... im happy(ish) with windows 7 but im using 32 bit so i think next pc will be a 64 bit machine.
im scared windows 8 will be restrictive.... then again anything is better then apple. either you go all apple or go home because apple are trying to rule everything -.-
I just realized this new youtube design is meant for smaller resolutions. At 1620x1080, nearly half the screen is blank, but on my laptop which has a resolution of xxxx x <1000, it looks quite nice, there is no blank space.
As for Windows 8, the pattern of good-bad-good-bad OS releases by Microsoft never fails.

I've posted this before, but MS is doing really good marketing on w8. If they succeed, all hell will break loose. ...MS doesn't announce their yearly successes on the 21st right?

this isn't so much about the actual design as that it is about proper programming and functionality. From a designers perspective, the new yt isn't particularly bad. But it's terrible to use.
e.g. - bad uncentered scripting - full of pointless buttons/tabs - disappearing useful functions - kissing Microsoft's and facebook's ass
Not to mention that there is simply no reason for these changes to begin with. Nobody asked for them. It's not like their previous interface was old.

yeah, the new youtube layout did not fix the old youtube bugs and problems... they really need to make it a very easy and less frustrating experience. the layout of youtube also needs to be somewhat customisable. for example i do not and will not ever use the "what to watch" page... but it will always be there on default -.-

I also Farking hate that YT auto-locates my country and changes the language accordingly. I DON'T WANT NON-ENGLISH INTERNET MOFO'S. I have to manually change it on every single PC I use. I annoys the shit out of me.
I've just favorited the UK page with 'my subscriptions' directly. the url is different so you just get to see everything immediately. It's still annoying though. you go to the 'what to watch' page if you press the youtube logo regardless T_T.
I want 2007 YT interface back T.T

Yeah it's stupid that I have to change back the language when I sometimes delete cookies. At least FB doesn't do that. I have my browser in my language though, but I don't like international sites having many languages. Just like SRO.

its a simple clean easy to use design what else do you want? nothing more annoying then over complicated flash invested sites, white is easy on your eyes, the navigation is clear to the point and makes the actual videos the focal point
