I'd say get her something she's interested in. If you get her something random she'll most likely feel you don't know anything about her or just couldn't be arsed to care enough. Hell, a piece of paper spelling out "I love you" with mac and cheese noodles would of made my day.

Don't get her a lighter unless she smokes and needs/wants a new one...my gf would look at me with a "wtf are you serious?" look on her face if she opened a gift from me and it was a lighter.

If you know what she likes (which you should), just get her something like that. You could always go cheesy and write her a nice note and get her a piece of (not too expensive) jewelry.
