vector is one of the differences between for example
adobe's photoshop and illustrator.

Photoshop uses the pixels to zoom, scale, etc. It sees
objects simply as pixels in a bitmap.

Illustrator is a vector program so it calculates and uses
anchor points to zoom, scale, etc. so it is a lot more
precise.

try to scale in photoshop and try to scale a traced image
in illustrator. the illustrator one will be precise endlessly
while the photoshop one will be blurry if you zoom in too
far.
